How to configure bundles in private galleries?

Learn how to increase sales and make it easier for clients to choose photos with automatic bundles.

Written by Emilia Sowa

Bundles are a powerful tool available in private galleries that lets you bring your offer directly into the photo selection panel. With them, the system automatically handles the calculations, and clients are more likely to purchase a larger number of shots when they can see the benefits of moving up to a higher pricing tier.

In this article you will learn:

  • Why it's worth using bundles.

  • How to set them up in the Mafelo panel.

  • How the bundle "intelligence" works (automatic switching).

  • How the system behaves when clients add more photos (subsequent orders).

1. Why should you set up bundles?

For a client, a clear offer is the key to a quick decision. Instead of wondering how much "the eighteenth photo" costs, the client sees concrete pricing tiers.

Key benefits:

  • Transparency: The client can see how much the starter bundle costs and how much each additional shot costs individually.

  • Upselling (Increasing sales): Clients often add a few extra shots to "jump up" to a higher bundle, where the per-photo unit price is usually lower.

  • Automation: The system automatically tallies the order, choosing the most advantageous option for the client, which builds trust.

2. Where and how do you configure bundles?

Configuration takes place during the creation or editing of a gallery.

  1. Log in to Mafelo and click the Create a Gallery button (or edit an existing one)

  2. Select the gallery type: Private gallery (packages do not work in public galleries)

  3. In the Bundles section, fill in the table by entering the details for the first bundle:
    - bundle name
    - bundle price
    - number of photos included in the bundle price
    - price per additional photo
    - print budget

  4. To add another bundle, click the Add bundle button. Repeat this as many times as you need to add more bundles.

3. Advanced bundle settings (When does the system switch bundles?)

Mafelo lets you decide at what point the system automatically offers the client an upgrade to a more expensive bundle. This is a key setting that affects the final cart value.

To decide when the system will upgrade the bundle:

  1. Click the Advanced bundle settings button (you will find it below the bundles table).

  2. Choose one of two options:

    • Option A (Quantity-based): The system will switch the client to a higher bundle only when the client selects the minimum number of photos specified for that higher package.

    • Option B (Price-based - Recommended): The system will switch the client to a higher bundle earlier – at the moment when the sum of the lower bundle price and the additionally purchased shots equals the price of the higher bundle. This is the more advantageous option for the client and is often perceived as more "fair".

  3. Click Save to confirm your choice.

4. How does your client see the bundles?

After opening the gallery link, your client will see the offer exactly as you entered it into the system.

  • The client selects photos and adds them to the cart.

  • Mafelo continuously analyzes the cart.

  • The system automatically selects the bundle that is the most price-advantageous for the client at any given moment (according to your advanced bundle settings).

5. What if the client places several orders in the same gallery?

It often happens that a client pays for an order and then decides a few days later to add more shots. Mafelo handles this continuously, combining the orders.

How does this work in practice?

  • Continuing purchases: If the client places a second order, the system will add the new photos to the pool from the first order.

  • Automatic bundle adjustment: If in total (order 1 + order 2) the client exceeds the threshold of a higher bundle, the system will recalculate everything at the rates of that higher bundle. The client will only pay the difference resulting from the new pricing.

  • No charges for the same photos: If the client adds the same digital files again in a new order, the system will not charge for them (it will only charge for new shots or additional products, e.g. prints).

⚠️Important: The bundle mechanism applies to digital files. Prints and other physical products are usually counted separately, unless you include them in the bundle price in another way.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can I set up bundles for public galleries (e.g. school photo galleries)?

No. The bundles feature is currently available exclusively for private galleries.

What will happen if I delete a bundle while a gallery is in progress?

Changing the gallery settings (e.g. editing bundles) that have already been sent to the client will cause the system to automatically recalculate all orders from scratch. This also applies to orders that have already been placed.
