You can pay your energy, water, or off-grid fuel bill using the voucher or Energy Card you received. The right way depends on what your council, school, or charity sent you. Open your link or letter to check.

π Work out which one you got
To work out which voucher or card you got, open your link or letter. It will say one of four things:
A PayPoint energy voucher: a barcode you take to a shop with a PayPoint sign
A Post Office energy voucher: a barcode you take to a Post Office branch
An Energy Card: a digital Mastercard used online or by phone
A OneLink Energy voucher: lets you choose between PayPoint, Post Office, or an Energy Card
πͺ PayPoint energy voucher
A PayPoint energy voucher tops up a gas or electricity prepayment meter. Take it to any shop with a PayPoint sign. The shop assistant scans the barcode and credits your meter. There are around 28,000 PayPoint locations in the UK.
Find your nearest PayPoint shop at paypoint.com/store-locator.
You'll need your gas card, electricity key, or smart meter card with you.
See: How does PayPoint work? (Receiving vouchers) for full step-by-step instructions.

π€ Post Office energy voucher
A Post Office energy voucher also tops up a gas or electricity prepayment meter. Take it to any Post Office branch. The clerk scans the barcode and credits your meter. There are around 11,500 Post Office branches in the UK.
You'll need your gas card, electricity key, or smart meter card with you.
Wait at least 15 minutes after claiming your voucher before going to the branch. The Post Office system needs that time to accept the barcode.
See: How do I use my Post Office energy voucher? for the full steps.
β
π³ Energy Card
The Energy Card is a digital prepaid Mastercard. You use the card number, expiry date, and CVV to pay your supplier online or by phone. It works the same way as any other Mastercard. The Energy Card covers energy, water, and off-grid fuel like heating oil.
See: What is an Energy Card? for a full explainer, or How do I get my prepaid card? for the steps to claim and use it.
β
π OneLink Energy voucher
A OneLink Energy voucher lets you choose between PayPoint, Post Office, or an Energy Card. Open your link and select how you pay for energy. The voucher you receive depends on the option you pick.
Your choice is final once you confirm it. Pick the option that suits you before you commit.
See: How do I redeem my OneLink Energy voucher? for the full walkthrough.
β
π‘ When you pay, no one will know
When you use your voucher or Energy Card, no one will know it came from a council, school, or charity. At the shop, the Post Office, or with your supplier, it works like any other voucher or card payment.
