When to use PayPoint energy
PayPoint energy vouchers are best for recipients who top up an energy meter and have a provider on the PayPoint network. Vouchers are redeemed in store at any of around 28,000 PayPoint locations and are capped at £49 per voucher.
If your recipient pays a bill rather than topping up a meter, send an Energy Card instead. If you're not sure which is right, send OneLink Energy. See: Which energy voucher should I send? for a full comparison.
Before you start: KYB
PayPoint is a regulated product. You'll need to pass a Know-Your-Business (KYB) check for PayPoint before you can send PayPoint vouchers. The same KYB covers both PayPoint cash and PayPoint energy.
If you haven't yet passed PayPoint KYB, email us at disbursements@huggg.me to start the process. It typically takes 3-5 working days to process a KYB form.

What to know
Cap of £49 per voucher. If you need to send more than £49 to a single recipient for energy meter top-ups, you'll need to send multiple PayPoint vouchers.
In-store redemption only. The recipient must take their voucher to a PayPoint location with their gas card, electricity key or Smart Meter card. The store assistant will scan the barcode (or process it manually) and top up their key or card.
ID may be required. The voucher will state if identification is needed. Acceptable ID includes a driving licence, bank statement, council tax bill, or any utility bill.
Single use. The voucher can only be used once and will expire on the date shown.
Common issues and what to do
Issue | What to do |
Provider isn't on the PayPoint list | Send a Post Office energy voucher (different provider list) or an Energy Card (if they pay online by card) instead. |
Recipient doesn't have a PayPoint nearby | Consider Post Office energy or OneLink Energy. Recipients can find their nearest PayPoint at https://www.paypoint.com/store-locator. |
Recipient doesn't have their gas card, electricity key or Smart Meter card | They will need to obtain a replacement from their energy provider before they can redeem. |
Amount needed is over £49 | Send multiple PayPoint vouchers, or use an Energy Card or OneLink Energy. |
How your recipient redeems
Recipients open their link, generate the voucher, and present the barcode at any PayPoint location along with their gas card, electricity key or Smart Meter card. For full recipient instructions, see the recipient-side article: How does PayPoint work? (Receiving vouchers)
