When do I need to use my voucher, and do I have to spend it all at once?

When do I need to use my voucher, and do I have to spend it all at once?

No - you don't need to use your voucher the day you receive it, and in most cases you don't need to spend it all at once either. The exact rules depend on the type of voucher you have.

There are two expiry dates to be aware of

Expiry date 1 - your Huggg link

Whatever type of voucher you have, it arrives as a link (by email, text, or letter). This link has an expiry date set by the organisation that sent it to you - your council, school, or charity. You must click the link and complete your selection before this date.

The expiry date is shown on your voucher link page. If you're unsure when it expires, check the email, text, or letter you received.

Expiry date 2 - your voucher itself

Once you've claimed your voucher, it will have its own expiry date depending on the type. The rules for each are covered in the relevant sections of this help centre:

  • Grocery and retail vouchers - see below for supermarket expiry details, and the Gift card and voucher T&Cs section for specific brands

  • Energy vouchers - see the Energy, water and utilities section

  • Cash vouchers - see the Cash payouts section

  • Appliances - see the Appliances and white goods section

Do I have to spend it all at once?

This depends on the type of voucher:

  • Grocery and retail vouchers - no, you can split the balance across multiple visits. Any remaining balance stays on your voucher until you next use it or it expires

  • Energy vouchers - the full value is applied in one transaction when you top up at a PayPoint, Post Office, or through your energy provider

  • Cash vouchers - most are single-use and dispense the full amount in one withdrawal

  • Appliances - the voucher covers a single item or delivery

Tip: If you're using a grocery or retail voucher in store, show the barcode at the till. The cashier will scan it and your remaining balance will update automatically.

Important

Don't leave it too long - once your Huggg link expires, we won't be able to reissue it. If you're close to the expiry date and need help, contact the organisation that sent your voucher.
