The Marketing role

The role for campaign work: what it opens, who it suits, and why it cannot read replies.

The Marketing role is for the people who send proactive messages. It opens Campaigns, the whole of Profiles including Audiences and Lists, Reservations, the Guest App, and Reports, and it does not open the Unified Inbox.

That last part surprises people. A Marketing operator can send a campaign to ten thousand guests and cannot read a single reply. If the same person does both jobs, add the Service role as well. See Combining roles.

Who it is for

  • Whoever builds and sends campaigns, whether that is journeys, broadcasts, or messaging popups.

  • Whoever segments the database, building the audiences and lists a campaign goes to.

  • Whoever reports on results, internally or to an owner.

  • An agency or freelancer running campaigns on your behalf, where you want them nowhere near live guest conversations.

What it reaches

Campaigns. Journeys, broadcasts, content blocks, messaging popups, custom tokens, and the results of each campaign.

The Campaigns section

Profiles. All three parts: Audiences, Lists, and Guests. This is the main difference from the Service role, which reaches Guests only.

The Profiles section

Reservations. Booking data for the properties the operator has access to, which is what makes stay-based targeting possible.

The Reservations section

Guest App. The guest-facing app experience.

The Guest App section

Reports. The reporting section, covered in Reports.

What this does not do

  • No Unified Inbox. Marketing operators cannot read or reply to guest conversations. Replies to a campaign land in the inbox, so somebody with the Service or Admin role has to be watching it.

  • No Tasks. The task list belongs to the Service role.

  • No manual guest import. Building an audience from existing data is Marketing work; loading a file of new guests is Admin only.

  • No Bookboost Insights. Insights is a separate add-on and is not granted by any role, this one included.

  • The role does not limit properties. A Marketing operator can build an audience across every property on their Accessible Apps list. See Accessible Apps.

What to do next

Before a campaign goes out, make sure somebody with Inbox access is expecting the replies. See The Service role, or give the same person both roles.
