How to export photos to Photoshop (Windows)?

Learn how to quickly and efficiently open the list of photos selected by a client directly in Photoshop on Windows.

Written by Emilia Sowa

In Mafelo, you can easily export the list of selected photos directly to Adobe Photoshop. By generating a ready-made string of file names, you can open all the ordered shots with a single click, without having to manually search for them in a folder.

Key benefits and use cases

  • Time savings: Automatically pasting multiple files at once eliminates the need to manually click and select each photo one by one.

  • Versatility: This method (pasting a string of characters into the Windows open dialog field) works not only in Photoshop, but also in many other graphics programs.

  • Quick start: Photos load directly into your workspace, ready for immediate retouching.

How to export selected photos to Photoshop (Windows)

To export photos that a client has selected in Mafelo, follow the steps below.

Tip: If you are using an Apple computer, this process looks slightly different. Check our separate guide: Click here to see the instructions for macOS.

Important: File export works at the level of a single gallery (perform these steps in the view of a specific gallery) or a single order (if there are multiple orders in a gallery, simply go into the details of the relevant order).

For file opening on Windows to work correctly:

  • Files uploaded to the gallery in Mafelo must have exactly the same names as your original files (e.g. RAW) on your computer's drive. The file extensions themselves (e.g. .jpg, .cr2, .arw) do not matter.

  • Make sure your file names do not contain spaces, special characters for the Polish language, or special characters (e.g. &, ").

Tip: If files with unsupported characters in their names have already been uploaded to the gallery, the Windows open dialog may report an error. In that case, a great alternative for managing files is Export to Mafelo Desktop, which handles such names without any issues.

  1. In Mafelo, go to the gallery from which you want to retrieve the list of orders.

  2. Open the Client Orders tab. (If you want to export only one order out of multiple, click on that specific order to go into its details).

  3. Scroll to the very bottom of the page and click the Export Photos button.

  4. From the dropdown menu, select the to Photoshop option.

  5. A new tab will open in your browser, containing the generated list of files.

  6. Critical step: Copy the string of file names visible directly under the Windows: heading (the copied text will look similar to: "107A8013" "107A7979" "107A7929").

  7. Launch Photoshop on your computer.

  8. On the start screen, click Open, or from the top menu select File, then Open (you can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + O).

  9. In the system file browser window, navigate to the main folder on your drive where all the original photos from this gallery are located.

  10. Paste the previously copied list of files into the field named File name: (located at the very bottom of the window), then click the Open button.

The selected photos will be automatically loaded and will open in separate tabs in Photoshop (or in the Camera Raw module for RAW files), ready for further work!

Note: If the list of selected photos is very long, Windows may not be able to paste them all at once. In that case, split the opening into smaller batches or use Export to Mafelo Desktop.
