In Mafelo, you can easily find the list of selected photos directly in Windows using a dedicated script. This allows you to automatically copy the files that the client marked for final retouching to a newly created folder, without selecting them manually.
Key benefits and use cases
Selection automation: The script automatically finds and copies the selected shots from your main photos folder.
Workflow organization: Automatically creating a subfolder with the photos chosen by the client makes galleries management easier and separates the photos for retouching from the rest of the material.
Time savings: Eliminates errors from manually searching for and renaming individual files.
How to export selected photos to Windows
To export photos, follow the steps below.
Important: File export works at the level of a single gallery (perform these steps in the view of a specific gallery) or a single order (if there are multiple orders in a gallery, simply open the details of the relevant order).
For the Windows script to work correctly:
Files uploaded to the gallery in Mafelo must have exactly the same names as your original files (e.g. RAW) on your computer's drive. The file extensions themselves (e.g. .jpg, .cr2, .arw) do not matter.
Make sure your file names do not contain spaces, special characters, or characters with diacritics (e.g.
&,").
Tip: If files that contain unsupported characters in their names have already been uploaded to the gallery, the Windows script will not copy them. In that case, a great alternative for managing files is Export to Mafelo Desktop, which handles such names without any issues.
In Mafelo, go to the gallery from which you want to download the list of orders.
Open the Client orders tab. (If you want to export only one order out of many, click that specific order to open its details).
Scroll to the very bottom of the page and click the Export photos button.
From the drop-down menu, select the to Windows option, or if you have multiple orders, select to Windows (separate folders).
Your browser will automatically download the script file named
prepare photos [gallery name].cmd. (In Google Chrome, you can easily locate the file by clicking the download icon and selecting "Show in folder").Critical step: Copy the downloaded
.cmdfile and paste it directly into the directory (folder) on your drive that contains all the original photos from that gallery.Run the script by double-clicking it.
Since this is an external script, Windows may display a warning screen (SmartScreen). In that case, click More info, and then click the Run anyway button.
The script will begin running. Since it physically copies the files, the process may take a while depending on the size and number of photos. When it finishes, a new folder named Selected by client will appear in your directory, containing the copied files ready for editing.
