How to export photos to Adobe Bridge?

Learn how to quickly and efficiently transfer the list of photos selected by the client from Mafelo directly to Adobe Bridge.

Written by Emilia Sowa

In Mafelo, you can easily export the list of selected photos to Adobe Bridge using a dedicated script. This allows you to quickly find and group the files that the client has marked for final retouching, without manually copying file names.

Key benefits and use cases

  • Selection automation: The script automatically locates the selected shots in your main photo folder on disk.

  • Workflow organization: The ability to quickly create a separate collection of commissioned shots makes managing a gallery easier.

  • Fast file management: The option to instantly copy or move the selected files to a separate folder (e.g. "Ready for retouching").

How to export selected photos to Adobe Bridge

To export photos, follow the steps below.

NOTE: Important information for users of the new version of Adobe Bridge.
In the latest versions of the program, minor issues with script handling may occur (e.g. a newly created collection may only be visible after restarting Bridge). If you encounter such difficulties, we recommend using Export to Mafelo Desktop, which is a newer and more stable alternative.

Important: File export works at the level of a single gallery (perform these steps within a specific gallery) or a single order (if there are multiple orders in a gallery, go to the details of the specific order).
For the search in Adobe Bridge to work correctly:

  • Files uploaded to a gallery in Mafelo must have exactly the same names as your original files (e.g. RAW) on your computer's disk. The file extensions themselves (e.g. .jpg, .cr2, .arw) do not matter.

  • Make sure your file names do not contain spaces or special characters (e.g. &, ").

Tip: If files that contain spaces in their name have already been uploaded to the gallery, the Adobe Bridge script may not find them. In that case, a great alternative for file management is Export to Mafelo Desktop, which handles such names without any issues.

  1. In Mafelo, go to the Gallery from which you want to retrieve the file list.

  2. Open the Client Orders tab. If you want to export only one order out of many, click that specific order to view its details.

  3. Scroll down the page and below the list of orders click the Export photos button.

  4. From the dropdown menu, select the to Adobe Bridge option.

  5. Your browser will automatically download a small helper file named adobe_bridge.jsx.

  6. Launch Adobe Bridge. Inside the program, navigate to the folder where the adobe_bridge.jsx file was downloaded (usually the system "Downloads" folder).

  7. Run the downloaded file by double-clicking it. A dialog box will appear asking you to confirm running the script – click Yes.

  8. In the next window, indicate on your disk the directory (folder) where the original photos from the given gallery are located. After selecting the folder, click OK.

  9. In the last step, enter a name for the new collection (e.g. "Selected photos - Smith") and click OK again.

Adobe Bridge will confirm that the collection was successfully created and will display all selected photos in it. (Note: in some newer versions of the program, restarting Adobe Bridge may be required for the new collection to appear).

(Optional) How to copy or move selected photos to a separate folder?

Once you have your photos isolated in your collection, you can easily physically separate them from the rest of the gallery files, which makes further retouching much easier:

  1. Select all filtered photos in Adobe Bridge.

  2. Right-click on them.

  3. From the context menu that appears, select the Copy to or Move to option.

  4. Choose one of the suggested directories or click the Choose Folder option to specify your own destination on disk (e.g. a newly created folder "For retouching").
