PayPoint cash - what you need to know before sending

Pre-send checklist, KYB requirements, fees and key constraints for PayPoint cash vouchers - including the £100 cap, single-transaction redemption and what your recipient needs to collect.

When to use PayPoint cash

PayPoint cash vouchers let your recipient collect cash over the counter at any of around 28,000 PayPoint locations - newsagents, convenience stores and supermarkets. Vouchers are capped at £100 per voucher.

If your recipient needs more than £100, send a Post Office cash voucher (up to £4,000) or an ATM cash voucher (up to £500) instead. If you're not sure which is right, send OneLink Cash. See: Which cash voucher should I send? for a full comparison.

Before you start: KYB

PayPoint is a regulated product. You'll need to pass a Know-Your-Business (KYB) check for PayPoint before you can send PayPoint vouchers. The same KYB covers both PayPoint cash and PayPoint energy.

If you haven't yet passed PayPoint KYB, email us at disbursements@huggg.me to start the process. It typically takes 3-5 working days to process a KYB form.

Fees

There are extra fees associated with this product. For an up-to-date breakdown of issuance fees, cancellation fees and any other charges, email us at disbursements@huggg.me.

Pre-send checklist

Before you send a PayPoint cash voucher, confirm:

  • Your organisation has passed PayPoint KYB

  • The amount is £100 or under

  • Your recipient is able to collect in store at a PayPoint location

  • Your recipient understands they must collect the full amount in a single transaction

What to know

£100 cap per voucher. If your recipient needs more, send multiple PayPoint cash vouchers or use a different product (Post Office cash supports up to £4,000, ATM cash up to £500).

In-store, single transaction. Your recipient hands the voucher (on phone or printed) to the cashier and the cashier hands them the full amount in cash. They cannot collect a portion now and the rest later - it has to be one transaction.

Cash availability varies by store. On rare occasions, a particular PayPoint store may not have enough cash on hand to fulfil a larger voucher. If this happens, your recipient should try another PayPoint location.

Single use. The voucher can only be used once and will expire on the date shown.

Common issues and what to do

Issue

What to do

Recipient needs more than £100

Send multiple PayPoint cash vouchers, or use Post Office cash (up to £4,000) or ATM cash (up to £500) instead.

Recipient doesn't have a PayPoint nearby

Consider Post Office cash, ATM cash, or OneLink Cash. Recipients can find their nearest PayPoint at https://www.paypoint.com/store-locator.

Store doesn't have enough cash to pay out

Recipient should try a different PayPoint location. Larger stores generally hold more cash.

Barcode won't scan at the till

Recipient should ask the cashier to enter the voucher number manually. If they're still having problems, email support@huggg.me.

How your recipient collects the cash

Recipients open their link, generate the voucher, and present the barcode at any PayPoint location. The cashier scans the barcode and hands over the full amount in cash. For full recipient instructions, see the recipient-side article: How do I use my PayPoint cash voucher?
