Error when creating an operator

Why an email address can be blocked by a deleted profile, how support restores it, and how to avoid it next time.

If Bookboost refuses to create an operator, the usual cause is that the email address already belongs to a profile that was deleted. Deleted operators are kept in an inactive state rather than erased, and the address stays claimed, so the platform blocks a second account on it.

You cannot clear this yourself. Support has to restore the old profile, which takes one email.

When this happens

  • Someone has come back. A colleague left, their account was deleted, and now they are returning.

  • An operator was deleted by mistake and needs adding again.

  • A shared or role-based address is being reused, such as reception@ or frontdesk@, which a previous person was registered under.

  • A new starter has inherited a leaver's address during a handover.

What to do

  1. Check the address is right before assuming anything is broken. A typo produces a different error.

  2. Do not try again. Repeating it gives the same result, and creating a near-duplicate address to get around it leaves you with two records to manage later.

  3. Email support at support@bookboost.io with the address or addresses you are trying to add.

  4. We restore the profile and send you a temporary password.

  5. Share that password securely, for example through onetimesecret.com, rather than by email or chat.

  6. Ask them to change it on first login, under Settings > Operators on their own profile. See Changing or resetting your password.

Check the role and property access afterwards. A restored profile comes back as it was, which may not match what the person needs now. See Operator roles and Accessible Apps.

Avoiding it next time

This is a deleting problem, so it is solved at the point where someone leaves rather than when their replacement arrives.

If a colleague is going, ask support about deactivating their operator instead of deleting it. A deactivated operator cannot log in, but the profile stays intact and can be switched back on without a support request.

What this does not do

  • It is not a login problem. Nobody is being blocked from signing in. The account cannot be created in the first place.

  • Deleting in the platform does not free the email address. The record is retained, which is exactly why this error appears.

  • You cannot restore a deleted profile yourself. Only support can reach deleted records.

  • Restoring is not the same as starting fresh. The old profile comes back with whatever it had, so review the role and properties rather than assuming they are blank.

What to do next

Once the profile is back, treat it like any other operator record. See Adding and managing operators.
