How to navigate a business opportunity

This guide explains how to understand your business opportunities and all the information they show to make an informed decision whether to enter a bid or not.

By clicking on an opportunity card from the Explore or Monitoring Inbox pages, you will be taken to the full opportunity page. Here, you will find all the details of the opportunity.

In this article, the aim is to explain how the Business Opportunity page is structured to give you all the details you need.

Comment, Save, Watch and Share!

To ensure no business opportunity is missed or overlooked, the platform provides four action buttons on the right-hand side to help you track opportunities and inform colleagues about new matches.

Click on the arrow icon to open each guide

How to WATCH a business opportunity

Start watching a business opportunity with the click of a button:

  1. Navigate to the desired business opportunity card within Explore or your Monitoring Inbox

  2. Select the eye icon on the right-hand side to begin watching immediately

Start watching a business opportunity means you will receive notifications both via email and within the platform. These updates may include important publicly available information, such as changes to the tender type, estimated value, or duration. To get these alerts, ensure the Comment updates option is enabled in your notification settings.

To stop watching a business opportunity, you can either deselect the eye icon on the opportunity card within the tender summary page or use the option in the email notification you receive.

Good to know: If you Save the opportunity, the Watch feature is automatically enabled. You may unselect the Start Watching icon manually if necessary. By doing this, you will stop receiving any email notifications related to the opportunity, but still keep easy access.

How to SAVE a business opportunity

Save a business opportunity by the click of a button:

  1. Navigate to the business opportunity card in Explore or your Monitoring Inbox.

  2. Click the bookmark icon to save the opportunity.

  3. The opportunity is automatically saved to My Opportunities, accessible via the Home page under the Saved tab.

When you save an opportunity, you also gain quick access to its comments and watch status, helping you maintain visibility of the tenders you have marked without manually searching through Explore or your Monitoring Inbox.

You can remove opportunities that are no longer relevant with a single click from the same section. This keeps your workspace organised and ensures important updates and notifications remain easily accessible at all times.

How to COMMENT on a business opportunity

Commenting is simple:

  1. Navigate to the desired business opportunity card within Explore or your Monitoring Inbox

  2. Select the speech bubble icon to add a comment

We offer the ability to communicate and collaborate with colleagues from your organisation directly within the Mercell Bidding platform by adding comments on business opportunities. This provides a central and private space to discuss opportunities or just make notes for yourself.

Buyers do not see these comments. Comments are visible only to colleagues in your organisation with an active subscription license, including parent and child organisations you are part of.

When new comments are added or deleted on an opportunity you are watching, you will receive notifications via email and in-platform so you can collaborate and keep up to date. To get these alerts, ensure the Comment updates option is enabled in your notification settings.

Once you add a comment to an opportunity, you will, by default, automatically start to receive email notifications related to it. You can, of course, turn this off by deselecting the Start watching icon at the top right-hand side of the opportunity page.

Click into the comments to open the comment drawer. Here you will see all comments from the oldest to the latest. Any comments that you have not yet read will be highlighted and marked as new.

To edit or delete your own comment, click the 3-dot menu next to it.

  • Edited comments are marked as ‘edited’.

  • Note that the time stamp will only show the time of creation of the comment and not the edit time.

How to SHARE a business opportunity

Share a business opportunity quickly and easily:

  1. Navigate to the desired business opportunity card within Explore or your Monitoring Inbox.

  2. Select the Share icon.

  3. Add users by name or email address and press Enter to include them in the recipient list.

  4. Optionally, add a message.

  5. Click Share to send the opportunity.

The recipient will receive an email notification and can click View opportunity to access it.

Business opportunities can be shared with colleagues, either within your organisation in Mercell Bidding or externally. Using the Share icon on the business opportunity itself makes it quick and easy for others to have access to relevant opportunities that you have identified. Do not forget it is also possible to share with multiple people at once. You can also add a personalised message that will be visible to the recipient when they receive the shared notification.

Note: If the recipient does not have a Mercell Bidding account, they will need to sign up before they can view the opportunity. If they belong to your organisation and you hold the Organisation Administrator role, you can also add them to the platform to ensure they have proper access.

If the recipient does not have a subscription license that grants full access to opportunities, they will see a restricted view of the opportunity page, showing only a basic description.

Summary

This is an AI-generated summary that will provide a short overview of all the key information taken from the business opportunity. This provides you with a simple insight when you have limited time available.

Trusted Information

We include references to show where the AI has sourced the information from. These can be found by hovering over the quotation marks shown within the summary text. If you click on the quotation marks, a handy side panel appears giving you the referenced document name, location, and the exact quoted text(s).

Open full document gives you access to the full information source when it is available.

How We Ensure You Can Trust Our AI Summaries

To help you make fast and confident decisions, we have implemented three strict safety rules for how our AI handles quoting and verification:

  • 100% Exact Matches: Every direct quote extracted is cross-checked directly against the source document. The text is copied identically—we do not tolerate any AI-generated "guesses" or hallucinations. What you read is exactly what is in the source.

  • Strict Relevance: We extract only the most relevant parts of the text directly tied to the specific data point you are looking at. You won't have to sift through unnecessary filler.

  • Safety First (Our Fallback Rule): If there is even the slightest doubt about whether a phrase can be 100% reliably verified from the document, the reference is completely removed rather than showing you unverified text. No information is better than unverified information.
