Information about a Homeowners' Association (VvE)

Updated this week

What is a Homeowners' Association (VvE)?

A Homeowners' Association (VvE) is an umbrella organization for multiple homes, usually located within the same building. Every owner within the same building is therefore part of the VvE, and each owner is therefore a partial owner of this VvE. As an owner, you are responsible for the inside of the home, while the VvE is responsible for the common areas, roofs, exterior walls, and windows.

What does a Homeowners' Association do?

The VvE is responsible for the management and maintenance of all common areas of the building. These are common areas such as the hall, stairwell, and corridors. Installations such as the elevator are also part of the common areas.

The VvE represents all the owners in the building. Because multiple homes, and therefore owners, use the roof, for example, decisions are made jointly (through the VvE). This is done through an annual VvE meeting.
