Segment guests by a form field value

Build an audience from the answers guests give in a Bookboost form, so you can target or exclude guests based on the option they selected.

When a guest tells you something in a form, for example that they are travelling for business or that they are arriving late, you can build an audience from that answer. The Form Field Value filter targets guests by the option they picked in a specific field of a specific form, rather than only by whether they submitted the form at all.

What the filter does

Form Field Value is a guest and profile filter in the audience builder. You pick a form, then a field in that form, then the value you want to match. Guests whose submitted answer matches that value are included in the audience.

The selectors load in that order because the fields and values on offer depend on the form. The field list only appears once you have chosen a form, and the list of values only appears once you have chosen a field.

Like the other guest and profile filters, it has an Exclude selected option, which flips the filter so it removes matching guests from the audience instead of including them. Filters combine with AND logic, so a guest has to match every filter you add.

How to set this up?

  1. Open the audience builder.

    Adding a new audience

  2. Select Add a filter.

    The Add Filter button

  3. Choose Form Field Value from the guest and profile filters.

  5. Choose the field within that form. Only fields with a predefined set of options appear here, for example dropdowns and multiple-choice questions.

  7. Tick Exclude selected if you want to remove matching guests rather than include them.

  8. Save the audience.

Examples

  • Purpose of travel. A pre-stay form asks why the guest is visiting. Filter on "Reason for stay = Business" to send a workspace and late-checkout offer only to business travellers.

  • Marketing consent. Filter on "Marketing consent = No" with Exclude selected ticked, so those guests are removed from a promotional broadcast.

  • Arrival time. Filter on "Arrival time = After 22:00" to send late arrivals the door code and night-reception instructions.

What this does not do

  • Free-text fields are not supported. The filter only works with fields that have a fixed set of options to choose from. A free-text question such as "Anything else we should know?" does not appear in the field list, because there is no stable set of values to match against.

  • One value per filter, and no "or". Each filter matches a single value in a single field of a single form. Because filters combine with AND, you cannot build "Business or Event" inside one audience. Create a separate audience for each value you want to reach.

  • The form has to be a Bookboost form. Answers collected outside Bookboost, for example in an external review tool, are not available to this filter.

Common questions

What is the difference between this and the "Guest Has Submitted Form" filter?
"Guest Has Submitted Form" only checks whether a guest completed a given form, which is what you want for submission reminders. Form Field Value looks at what they actually answered in one of its fields.

What happens if a guest submitted the same form more than once?
The filter matches on any of their submissions, not only the most recent one. A guest who selected "Business" on one submission and "Leisure" on another matches both a Business filter and a Leisure filter. If you are sending two mutually exclusive messages, expect a small overlap between the two audiences.

Why can I not see the field I want?
The field is most likely a free-text field. Only fields with predefined options can be filtered on. If you need to segment on that information, change the question in the form to a dropdown or a multiple-choice field, and note that only submissions made after the change will carry a selectable value.

Why is the field list empty?
You have not selected a form yet, or the form you selected has no fields with predefined options. Pick the form first, and the field list loads for that form.
