If only some reservations in a group booking received a Journey campaign, the cause is almost always First Per Day. It is one of four toggles hidden at the final step of the campaign builder, and they are worth checking before you publish.
Where to find them
Go to Campaigns in the left menu and open the Journey campaign.
Click through to the Review and Publish step.
At the bottom of the page, next to the publish buttons, click Advanced.
The panel is headed Advanced Settings and holds four toggles in this order: Shorten links, Automatic UTM tracking, First per day and Prioritize language. A Broadcast has the same panel without First per day, which has no meaning on a one-off send. See Broadcast advanced settings.
First Per Day
When this is on, the campaign sends only once per day per guest profile, even if several reservations belonging to that profile trigger it on the same day. It exists to stop a guest receiving the same message repeatedly.
When it is off, the campaign fires once for every reservation that meets the trigger, no matter how many of them belong to the same guest.
Turn it off for group bookings. A group booking often has several reservations linked to one guest profile. With First Per Day on, only one message goes out, so only one reservation gets confirmed. The same applies when several reservations in a group have their dates changed on the same day: all but the first update notification is suppressed.
Leave it on for repeat guests. Someone with several upcoming stays should not receive the same pre-arrival message once per booking.
Shorten Links
When this is on, Bookboost shortens any URL in your message using its own shortener. Keep it on for SMS and WhatsApp unless you have a specific reason not to.
First, delivery. If links go out through a public shortener in an SMS, the message will most likely not reach guests with phone numbers in the Nordics, because of carrier restrictions. Bookboost's own shortener avoids that.
Second, tracking. Click tracking only works on shortened links. Turn this off and you lose click data for SMS and WhatsApp. Email tracking is not affected either way.
It also carries UTM tracking, which is the next toggle.
Automatic UTM tracking
When this is on, Bookboost adds UTM parameters to the links in your message, so visits arriving from the campaign are identifiable as campaign traffic in your own analytics rather than turning up as direct visits. It replaces the job of adding parameters by hand to every link in every message.
There is nothing to configure. The parameters are built for you.
It only works when Shorten links is on. The parameters are appended as your links pass through Bookboost's shortener, so the shortener has to be doing the work. Turn Shorten links off, or run a property whose setup does not use shortening, and nothing is appended even with this toggle on. The two go together, and the order to switch them on is Shorten links first.
That dependency is the thing to check if the toggle looks like it is doing nothing. A campaign with UTM tracking on and Shorten links off produces exactly the same untagged links it did before.
To see exactly what reaches your analytics, look at a link in a message the campaign has already sent, or ask us and we will tell you what the parameters are set to.
Prioritize Language
This toggle decides what wins when a guest's preferred language and your preferred channel point in different directions.
On: language wins. The system picks the template in the guest's preferred language, even if that means sending on a different channel to the one you set as default.
Off: channel wins. The system sends on the preferred channel, using whichever language template exists for it.
Turn it on if you run a multilingual property and reaching guests in their own language matters more than the channel. Leave it off if a particular channel is non-negotiable for you.
When a campaign appears to skip reservations
Two separate mechanisms can suppress sends, and they are easy to confuse. Check both before investigating further.
First Per Day suppresses sends when different reservations belonging to the same guest profile all trigger the campaign on the same day.
The 30-minute window applies to update triggers. If the same reservation is updated several times in quick succession, the system waits 30 minutes and sends once, with the latest data.
If a group booking campaign is only partly firing, check First Per Day first. It is the most common cause.
