Talos Perform can help your organisation draw up succession plans, identify areas of personnel-related risk and ensure you don't miss opportunities to develop your talent.
Talos Perform does this by gathering the assessment and opinion of each employee's manager from time to time using its Reviews feature. The steps involved are as follows:
Create your talent profile questionnaire
Conduct the reviews
Report on the results and act
Create your talent profile questionnaire
Note: You will need 'Form Designer' access to create a talent and succession planning review form or new section within an existing form.
Is there a natural point in the year - such as a year-end review time - when managers can assess their team's talent profile? If so, you can combine the talent profile questionnaire with the existing review.
Otherwise, create a form specifically for talent profiles. Here's an example - you can find this example in Form Design:
You can also add a 9-box grid with your own labels and descriptions.
The 9-box grid is a talent management tool that lets managers assess each employee across two dimensions — typically performance and potential — as part of a review. Each employee is placed in one of nine boxes, and the results are aggregated into a visual report that gives you an organisation-wide view of your talent landscape. You can use it to identify high-potential employees, plan succession, and spot development needs across your teams.
To do this, you'll need to select the Grid Only question type. This presents the manager with the nine-box grid during the review and lets them select the box the employee belongs in.
This will automatically create the example grid above but we can customise it to set the labels for each axis and wording/colours for each box to match your organisation's own framework. Contact support@appraisd.com if you need custom wording.
When adding this section, ensure that the visibility of all questions are marked as "Managers can input, hidden from employees" and the section as a whole is marked as "Manager-only (not shown to appraisee)". This keeps assessments confidential and ensures employees cannot see their placement.
Conduct the reviews
If you're using this section within a year-end review, then continue with the reviews as normal.
If you'd prefer to run a talent review separately, then:
Ensure hidden reviews are enabled on your account
Ensure the "2-step no self-assessment" is also enabled
Set up the reviews in bulk ensuring that you select the "Hidden from reviewee" option and use the "2-step no self-assessment" workflow
Report on the results
Go to the Admin Centre > Reports > Reviews.
Filter the reviews to the group you want to report on — for example, all talent reviews from a particular year or department — or open a saved reviews report that already captures the right group.
Click the View related data dropdown and select Responses report for these reviews to see the data in list view.
Alternatively, for reporting on the 9 box grid question specifically, use the 9 box grid report to visualise responses and provide summary statistics.
Note: Contact support@appraisd.com to enable this feature first, then follow the steps below...
To save a 9 box grid report, you will need to go into the Administration Centre, select the 'Reports' tab. Then click 'Create a report' in the top right corner.
Using the drop down box that appears, select the '9 box grid report'.
Click onto the 'Filter' button, using the 'Questions' section, select the 'Open questions picker'.
A pop up tab will appear for you to choose which questions to filter by, select and click into the 'Talent Management' box, then press 'Apply' and click 'Show results'.
If your account has more than one nine-box grid configuration, you will be asked to choose which one to display the results in. Select the configuration you want and click Show report.
The report loads all responses from the selected reviews and places each person in the box their manager assigned them. Each box shows a count of people and a percentage of the total. Users who did not have a grid question in their review, or whose manager did not complete it, will not appear in the report.
To narrow the results further — for example to a specific department or team — use the filter tool within the report.
To take action on a group, click Open on any box. This opens those users in the People tab, where you can email them, assign them a new review, or take any other action.
Once your report has been created, you can save this by clicking 'Save report' in the top left side of the page, the pop up will appear to title the name of the report and will appear in your 'Reports' tab.
