Can you deduct the costs of non-recognized healing methods as extraordinary medical expenses?

How can I deduct costs for alternative healing methods?

Updated this week
Are alternative healing methods tax-deductible?

Whether alternative healing methods are tax-deductible depends on the individual case.

In general:

Such treatment costs can only be recognized as extraordinary medical expenses if certain conditions are met.

Important: You need a certificate from a public health officer or an attestation from the medical service, issued before the treatment begins.

The certificate or attestation must confirm that:

  • the treatment was medically necessary,

  • the costs were unavoidable, and

  • the method provided you with proven relief or healing.

If you can provide this documentation, there is a good chance that the tax office will recognize the expenses and allow you to deduct them in your tax return.
