Why might my rent payment via direct debit be delayed?
A delay in the direct debit can have multiple reasons. Our objective is to charge your bank account per the 1st of the affecting month, though we are reliant on the banking systems. Due to holidays and bank holidays, it can occur that your rent is charged a few days later.
In special occasions, rent payments may not be debited on the expected date due to administrative delays, such as loading new management systems. For instance, there have been cases where automated rent debits were postponed because of system processing issues. We always inform tenants per e-mail if the direct debit is delayed significantly.
What to do:
No action required: In cases of delay, we ask you to not manually transfer the rent. Allow the automatic debit to process once the system is updated to avoid double payment. Since the direct debit request is always sent out to the bank, we will still charge you even if you already made the payment manually.
For ongoing delays: Rent payments will typically resume around the 1st of the month as usual.
Impact of manual payments on automatic debiting
If you choose to pay your rent manually and the automatic debit is still scheduled, this will result in a double payment. To prevent this, you can cancel the automatic debit for that specific month directly through your bank, as soon as it is visible in your bank account.
Regular automatic payment timeline
Under normal circumstances, your rent is automatically debited around the 1st of every month. For example, if you make a manual payment for the current period on the 28th, the next automatic debit will still proceed on the 1st of the next month unless canceled in your bank account.
Conclusion
Maintaining regularity in rent payment processes is critical to avoiding disruptions. Automatic payments are designed to process seamlessly; however, during rare operational issues, it is important to avoid manual interventions unless absolutely necessary. Always consult with your bank if you’ve completed a manual transaction to ensure you don’t encounter overpayments.
