Gas, water, electricity and heating

Updated today

Do you need to arrange your utilities yourself?

This depends on the property. In most cases, tenants arrange their own contracts for water, gas, and electricity.

Your rental agreement states what applies to your situation.

Please note: an advance payment for utilities is not the same as service charges.

Meter readings

Meter readings are recorded at the start of your tenancy (check-in) and when you move out (check-out).

Water

You can check which water supplier serves your address via the Vewin website using a postcode check.

You cannot choose your water supplier, each region has one fixed provider.

Electricity

In most cases, you can choose your own electricity supplier.

If there is an advance payment for electricity in your contract, it is arranged via LIV Residential.

Gas

Not all homes are connected to gas.

If your home has a central heating boiler or gas stove, you will usually need to arrange a gas contract yourself (unless stated otherwise in your rental agreement).

Heating (WKO / district heating / block heating)

For these systems, there is usually only one supplier available.

You will need to arrange this yourself, unless it is already included in your rental agreement.

As a new tenant

In most cases, you need to arrange:

  • Water

  • Gas

  • Electricity

Unless an advance payment for utilities is included in your rental agreement.
