Utilities, district heating, block heating, geothermal energy (WKO)
It varies by rental property whether you need to arrange/connect your own water, gas, or electricity, or whether the landlord does this for you.
Your tenancy agreement specifies whether LIV Residential will arrange this for you. You can also see this by the advance payment for gas, water, or electricity. Do not confuse this with any advance payment for service charges.
LIV Residential will read the gas, water, and/or electricity meters at the start of the rental period (during check-in). This will also be done when you leave the property (during check-out).
How do I find out which company supplies my drinking water?
On the Vewin website (Association of Water Companies in the Netherlands), you can use a postcode check to find out which company supplies the water in your region. You can only get water from the water company in your own region.
Click here for the link to the website.
Who arranges my electricity?
In principle, as a tenant, you can choose your own supplier for your electricity. In some cases, LIV Residential may provide this service, and you may pay a monthly advance payment for it. If this is the case, you will see an advance payment for electricity in your rental agreement.
Do I need to disconnect gas?
Not every home is connected to gas anymore. Therefore, whether you need to disconnect it can vary per rental property. A central heating boiler and gas stove in the kitchen indicate that your home is connected to gas and that you need to disconnect it.
WKO, block heating, district heating
If you have one of these heating systems in your home, there is often only one supplier available. As a tenant, you are responsible for purchasing the heat from this supplier, unless otherwise stated in your rental agreement.
As a new tenant, do I need to arrange my own water, gas, and electricity connections?
As a new tenant, you arrange your own water, gas, and electricity supplier. An exception is made for tenants who have an advance payment for electricity, gas, or electricity in their rental agreement. Do not confuse this with any advance service charges.
