Audience filters: reachability

The four filters that keep an audience to guests you can actually contact, and why Reachable belongs at the top of every one.

Reachability filters keep guests you can actually contact and drop the ones you cannot. There are four, and one of them belongs at the top of every audience you build.

Every filter has an Exclude selected option that inverts it, and filters combine with AND, so a guest has to pass all of them. See Audiences for how that interacts with campaigns.

Reachable

Keeps guests who have a usable email address or phone number on their profile. Add this first, to every audience. Without it you can build a segment of five hundred guests and successfully message eighty of them.

Valid means more than correctly formatted. If an email address has hard-bounced twice, Bookboost marks it unreachable and this filter drops it, even though the address still looks fine. See Automatic exclusion of hard-bounced email addresses.

Excluding rather than including gives you everyone unreachable, which is occasionally useful for finding profiles that need cleaning up.

Receiver email domains

Matches on the part of the address after the @, such as gmail.com or a company's own domain. Type a domain and select + to add it; add as many as you need.

The obvious use is separating business from leisure. A corporate client's domain identifies their travellers more reliably than any booking field, and excluding a domain is the quickest way to keep a campaign away from one company's staff.

Receiver emails

Matches whole email addresses rather than domains. Type an address, select +, repeat.

This is an admin tool, not a segmentation tool. It is for sending a test to your own address, or for excluding a specific individual who should not receive something. Building a campaign audience by listing addresses one at a time means the data you needed was somewhere else.

Receiver phones

The same thing for phone numbers, with the same caveat. Useful for testing an SMS or WhatsApp send against your own number before it goes out properly.

What this does not do

  • Reachable does not check consent. It answers "can we contact this guest", not "may we". Those are different questions and the second one matters more. See Consent management essentials.

  • It does not tell you which channel will work. A guest with a phone number but no email passes Reachable and will still fail an email campaign.

  • A hard-bounced address is not repaired by removing this filter. The address stays unreachable until it is corrected on the profile.

  • Domain matching is literal. A guest who books with a personal address is invisible to a corporate domain filter, even if they work there.

What to do next

Once reachability is set, narrow by who the guest is or what they booked. See Audience filters: guest and profile and Audience filters: reservation.
