Add an existing guest to a list

Putting a guest on a list by hand, what happens immediately afterwards, and when a tag or audience would suit better.

A list is a fixed group of guests you build by hand, rather than a rule that decides membership for you. Adding someone to one takes four clicks and takes effect immediately.

Use it when the guest already exists in Bookboost and you only need to add one or two. For a whole group, import them instead.

Adding a guest

  1. Go to Profiles > Lists.

  2. Find the list and select View to open it.

  3. Select Add Existing Guest.

  4. Search for the guest, select the right profile, and confirm.

Check you have the right profile before confirming. If the same guest exists more than once, adding the wrong record puts a guest on the list who will not receive anything you send to it. See Master Profile.

What happens straight away

The change is immediate, not queued. From that moment the guest is included in any journey, broadcast, or automation connected to that list.

That cuts both ways. Adding someone to a list attached to a live journey can trigger a message to them within minutes, so check what the list is wired to before you add anyone to it.

List, tag, or audience?

  • A list is a fixed group you curate. Membership only changes when someone changes it.

  • A tag is a label on the guest, which you can then filter on. See Guest tags.

  • An audience is a rule, and membership updates itself as guests come to match it. See Audiences.

If you find yourself adding the same kind of guest to a list repeatedly, you wanted an audience.

What this does not do

  • It does not create a guest. The profile has to exist already. If it does not, import them or wait for the booking to sync.

  • It does not add several guests at once. One at a time, which is why an import is better beyond a handful.

  • Lists do not update themselves. A guest who no longer belongs stays on the list until someone removes them.

  • Being on a list is not consent. A guest with revoked consent stays excluded from campaigns whatever list they are on.

What to do next

To target the list from a campaign, add it as a filter when building an audience. See Audience filters: guest and profile.
