Web Messenger

Installing the chat widget on your website, running one per site, and answering common questions automatically.

Web Messenger is the chat widget on your website, and usually the first place a guest gets in touch. Messages from it land in the Unified Inbox alongside every other channel, so a website enquiry sits next to the same guest's WhatsApp and email rather than in a separate tool.

It is also where guests choose a channel: from the widget they can carry on in whichever one you have connected.

Installing it on your website

  1. Go to Settings > Channel integrations.

  2. If you have several websites, select the one you want first.

  3. Copy the snippet from the box.

  4. Paste it into the index page of your website.

How you paste it depends on how your website is built, so this is usually a job for whoever maintains it. It is one snippet on one page, not a project.

Running more than one widget

If you have separate websites for different languages or different brands, give each one its own widget so the appearance and language match.

  1. Go to Settings > Websites.

  2. Click Add New + in the top right.

  3. Fill in the details. The name is for your own reference and guests never see it.

  4. Open Inactive websites on the left, find the one you just added, click the three dots beside its name, and choose Activate.

  5. Scroll down to edit the appearance of that widget, so it matches the branding or language of the site it sits on.

A new website starts inactive, which is why it does not appear in the main list until you activate it.

Automating replies

The same questions arrive constantly: what time is check-in, where is the restaurant, is there parking. Keyword replies answer those without anyone typing, so your team is left with the ones that need judgement.

Set the keyword and the reply against your own situation. A message containing "restaurant" can return your opening hours and location. Write the replies in your own tone rather than a neutral one, since the guest cannot tell whether an answer was typed or triggered, only whether it sounded like you.

Whoever is handling the conversation sees the guest profile beside it, so they can pick up from an automated reply with context rather than starting cold.

What this does not do

  • It does not install itself. The snippet has to be added to your website by someone with access to the code.

  • One widget per website. Different branding or languages mean a separate website entry and a separate snippet, not one widget that adapts.

  • A new website is inactive until you activate it. Adding it is not enough.

  • Automated replies match keywords, not meaning. A guest phrasing a question without your keyword gets no automatic answer, which is why the inbox still needs watching.

What to do next

See Email settings for the addresses behind the widget, and Set up automatic replies in the Unified Inbox for rule-based replies across every channel rather than keywords on the website alone.
