Email settings

The four email addresses behind your account, which two you can put your own domain on, and how to do it.

Four email addresses sit behind your account, and only two of them are yours to change. Knowing which is which saves a support ticket: the from and reply-to addresses can carry your own domain, the web messenger address can only have its display name changed, and the forward address is internal and never seen by guests.

Find them under Settings > Channel Integrations > Email.

The Email section of Channel Integrations

What you start with

By default your web messenger address, from address, and reply-to address are the same. That is a starting point rather than a rule, and you can change the display name on any of them yourself in the settings panel.

The email addresses in your settings panel

The four addresses

Forward email address. A unique, system-generated address that routes email into your Unified Inbox. It is never shown to guests, so there is nothing to customise and no reason to.

Web messenger address. Receives messages sent from your web messenger. You can change the display name, but not the domain. It stays on the Bookboost domain so messages route correctly.

From address and reply-to address. Fully customisable, both display name and domain. These are the two guests actually see, so they are the ones worth putting your own brand on.

Using your own domain

Changing the display name is self-service. Changing the domain on your from and reply-to addresses is not, because it needs DNS work on your side.

  1. Email support with the domain you want to send from.

  2. We add it to our records and send you the DNS records to publish.

  3. You add those records to your domain's DNS settings.

  4. Once they resolve, Bookboost can send on your behalf and your emails come from your own domain.

What this does not do

  • The web messenger domain cannot be changed. Only its display name. This is deliberate, so web messenger traffic keeps routing through Bookboost.

  • Domain changes are not instant. They depend on DNS records being added on your side and propagating, so allow time rather than expecting it the same day.

  • The forward address cannot be customised. It is generated for you and is not meant to be shared.

What to do next

If you are setting up the chat widget as well, see Web Messenger.
