We have been working for almost two years on a new platform for all Mill devices to enable the development of exciting new features in the future.
The old platform was built in 2016, and a lot has changed since then in terms of technology, features, and possibilities for smart products. Many of these are simply not possible with the architecture of the current platform. To offer these new features and provide better stability and reduced downtime, we have built a new Mill platform using IoT tools from AWS (Amazon Web Services) as building blocks.
Examples of new features we plan to introduce include electricity price optimization, support for Matter, and more.
Gen1 Heaters
The Gen1 heaters were produced and sold in 2016, and are now over 7 years old. These devices do not have OTA (Over-The-Air) update functionality, meaning we cannot upgrade the firmware. As a result, they will not be migrated to the new platform.
Currently, Gen1 heaters can still be used as standalone devices โ you can set a desired temperature, view the registered room temperature, and turn the heater on or off. However, it is no longer possible to set weekly programs or use other advanced features. This only affects approximately 0.5% of our users.
App Access for Gen1 Users
The iOS version of the previous Mill app is available in the App Store, and the Android version is available in Google Play. Gen1 users who wish to continue controlling their devices with the same functionality as before can do so using this earlier version of the Mill app.
Please note that Gen2 and Gen3 devices cannot be controlled using the older app.
