A cash dividend is the portion of a company’s profit that is paid out to its shareholders, usually expressed as a percentage. Cash dividends are often distributed on a regular basis, such as monthly or quarterly, but can also be one-time payouts, for example after a settlement. To be eligible, you must hold the position into the market open on the ex-date.
