Q1. How are stock dividends paid to my share account?
Once we receive a dividend payment from any of the shares you own, we will credit your account. It will appear on your ledger as additional cash. Dividend Reinvestments Plans (DRP) are currently not supported. However, you can then choose to either manually reinvest it or withdraw it.
Q2. What happens to my shares position if a company offers a rights issue or an open offer?
If you've qualified to participate in a rights issue or an open offer, you can manage your elections for each event online in the 'corporate actions' section of My IG by following the steps below:
Log in to IG Markets mobile app
Navigate to the 'Menu', select 'Support'
Choose the 'Corporate Actions Manager' option.
Locate the specific rights issue under the "Optional Actions" or "Voluntary Actions" tab.
Click on the action and select "Change" or "Edit" to submit your election.
Enter the quantity of rights you wish to exercise in the "New Election" field.
Save your selection and review the terms and conditions.
Click "I have read and agreed to the Terms and Conditions" to confirm. IG Markets will send a confirmation to shortly after.
Note |
• Default Action: If you do not submit an election by the deadline, your shares will typically be treated according to the default option stated in the offer documentation. |
You may receive an email notification regarding pending Corporate Actions. This is a no-reply email address, and elections can only be submitted through the IG Markets app.
Q3. What happens if the stock I am trading is suspended/delisted?
The exchange will release information when a stock is suspended/delisted. If a stock is suspended/delisted, we would have to wait for the stock to become tradeable again – which is outside of IG's control.
There is currently no option to close your position as the market is not trading.
The shares will remain in your account until trading resumes, the company is confirmed to be worthless, or the liquidation process is completed and any payouts to shareholders are made.
Q4. What happens to my position if the company performs a stock split or consolidation?
A stock split happens when a listed company divides its existing shares into a larger number of shares, typically to make them more affordable for retail investors and attract greater market participation. The company's market cap and the overall value of each shareholder's investment stay the same during a stock split, but the price of each share is reduced as the number of shares increases.
Conversely, a consolidation or reverse stock split reduces the total number of shares while raising the share price. Companies often do this to meet the minimum share price requirements of certain exchanges and avoid delisting.
Your existing position will be closed at a price of zero, after which a new trade will be opened reflecting the ratio of the split/consolidation, ensuring that you don't gain or lose any capital in the process.
Q5. Do you offer proxy voting, AGM attendance or shareholder meeting participations?
With your IG Markets Share account, you can buy global shares, which we then hold safely for you in our nominee account. And since we administer the account in which your shares are held, we act as nominee shareholder and can vote on your behalf at formal company meetings like AGMs.
Note |
• Submit proxy vote instructions at least 7 business days prior to the meeting date. |
AGM meetings
When you buy stock using our share account service, your stock will be held in our nominee account.
The charges for AGM and proxy voting services are as follows (all fees inclusive of GST):
Service | Fee |
AU Proxy Vote Submission | AUD 220 |
Physical Attendance — AU Proxy Vote | AUD 550 |
Once you've confirmed you are happy to accept this charge, you'll need to provide:
Your IG Markets account number and full name
The date and location of the company AGM
Your settled positions, held on the record date announced for the meeting
A passport or driving license number that you'll be using when attending the AGM
You can send the above details by contacting us.
IG will need to have this information seven working days prior to the deadline date for attending the AGM, otherwise we will unfortunately be unable to facilitate your request. You'll be able to find further details in the investor relations section of your chosen company's website.
