Create a shopping list using the Seed Planner

How to use the plants in your Seed Inventory to create a handy shopping list of seeds and plants you need to buy

Updated this week

Once you've added your seeds to the Seed Inventory and placed those plants on your plan, this populates the Seed Planner. If using a desktop computer, you will find the Seed Planner in the toolbar just above your plan:

Or If using a mobile device, the Seed Planner is on the right hand side.

The Seed Planner creates a shopping list for you by checking how many seeds you have in your Seed Inventory and calculating the number of packets of seeds you will need to buy.

How to Edit the Seed Planner List

If your plan includes perennial plants that you don't need to buy, you can remove them from the Seed Planner list by clicking the Exclude Perennials button.

You can also exclude seeds that are passed their expiry date by checking the box.

Make sure the correct product type (eg seeds or plants) is selected in the drop-down menu for each plant so it matches what's in your Seed Inventory:

If there are any other seeds or plants that you don't want to appear on your Shopping List, uncheck the box next to the plant:

Not every seed will germinate, so to compensate for this the Seed Planner calculates the number of seeds you need by multiplying by 1.5. This should make sure you have enough seedlings, even if some seeds don't germinate or if they succumb to pests, diseases or other problems.

If your Seed Inventory indicates you have enough seeds, the 'Available' section will show grey hashed lines and the message 'You have chosen enough from your seed inventory' is displayed:

If your Seed Inventory doesn't have sufficient seeds, the middle section will show red hashed lines and a warning message with the number of extra seeds required is displayed:

The Seed Planner automatically tries to make best use of your available seeds to complete your plan.

If you don't like a variety choice, you can press it to move it back to your Inventory. You can then select which variety to use from your available inventory instead.

When all amendments have been made, scroll down to the bottom of the list then click Create List.
