Step-by-Step Guide to Adding Music to Your Vinyl or CD Release
Uploading your tracks correctly is one of the most important steps when creating a vinyl or CD release on elasticStage. This guide explains how to upload music, arrange your tracklist, and enter track metadata so your physical release is produced exactly as intended.

Step 1: Prepare Your Audio Files
Before uploading your tracks, make sure your files are properly prepared for vinyl or CD production.
elasticStage transfers your content onto physical media as faithfully as possible, preserving the sound of your uploaded files without creative alterations.
Unlike traditional vinyl pressing plants that require one combined WAV file per side, elasticStage requires you to upload each track individually. This gives you full control over track order, sequencing and metadata.
For full technical specifications, read our audio preparation guide:
How Should I Prepare My Audio Files?
Step 2: Access the Track Upload Section
Once you’ve created your release:
Navigate to your project in your dashboard.
Open the Track Upload section.
You’ll see dedicated areas for Vinyl Side A / Side B, or a single running order for CD releases.
This layout mirrors how your final physical product will appear.
Step 3: Upload Your Music Files
Click the upload button and select your audio files.
You can:
Upload tracks individually
Upload multiple tracks at once
Once uploaded, elasticStage processes your files automatically.
You can then drag and drop tracks into your preferred running order. This is especially important for vinyl releases, where the flow of Side A and Side B shapes the listening experience.
Step 4: Enter Track Metadata
After uploading your tracks, enter the required track metadata.
For each track, add:
Track Title (exactly as it should appear on the sleeve and label)
Primary Artist and Featured Artist (if applicable)
Songwriters and Publishers
ISRC Codes (we supply them for free if you do not have ISRCs)
Track Duration (automatically detected but should be verified)
Step 5: Review Your Tracklist
Before locking your release, carefully review:
Spelling of track titles
Artist credits
ISRC codes
Running order
Side durations (for vinyl)
Once you lock your release, you will no longer be able to edit these fields. Double-check everything to ensure a smooth production process.
Common Questions About Uploading Tracks
Can I upload a single audio file for Side A and Side B?
No. elasticStage requires you to upload each track individually.
If your mastering engineer supplied one file per side, simply split the file into individual tracks before uploading.
What is an ISRC?
ISRC stands for International Standard Recording Code.
It uniquely identifies a specific sound recording worldwide and ensures correct royalty tracking.
If you don’t have ISRCs, elasticStage will generate them for free when you upload your tracks.
My album is slightly longer than 23 minutes per vinyl side. Can you make an exception?
No. We’re unable to make exceptions to the 23-minute-per-side limit.
For optimal sound quality, we recommend keeping each side under 22 minutes. Longer playtimes can reduce groove spacing and impact audio fidelity.
I have two tracks that blend from one into the other. Will silence be added?
No. We do not add silence between tracks.
If your tracks are designed to flow seamlessly (for example, classical movements or continuous DJ mixes), they will play back seamlessly on vinyl and CD.
What is the difference between a Primary Artist and a Featured Artist?
Primary Artist is the main performer credited on the release.
Featured Artist is a guest contributor who appears as “feat.” in the track title metadata.
Where do I credit producers, engineers and other musicians?
elasticStage metadata includes Primary Artists, Featured Artists, Songwriters and Publishers.
Producers, engineers and other contributors can be credited on your record sleeve artwork.
Why do I get a “Validation Failed” error when uploading audio?
Some mastering software embeds additional metadata into WAV files that does not follow the strict WAV standard required by our system.
To fix this:
Re-save the WAV file
Disable metadata embedding in your audio software
Export a clean WAV file with no embedded metadata
What Happens Next?
Once your tracks and metadata are complete, you can:
Upload your artwork
Preview your 3D product render
Order a test copy
Order a bulk run (optional)
Sell your release on-demand
You’re now well on your way to launching your vinyl or CD release.
