🪙 What is Sui Network (SUI)?

Sui is a Layer 1 blockchain platform designed for high-speed, scalable, and low-cost transactions, making it ideal for decentralized applications (dApps) in areas like decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), gaming, and real-time Web3 experiences. Launched in May 2023 by Mysten Labs—a company founded by former Meta (Facebook) engineers who worked on the Diem blockchain project—Sui aims to deliver the benefits of Web3 (such as ownership and decentralization) with the ease and speed of Web2 platforms. Its innovative architecture addresses common blockchain limitations like congestion and high fees, enabling sub-second transaction finality and throughput of over 100,000 transactions per second (TPS).

SUI is Sui's native cryptocurrency, with a fixed total supply of 10 billion tokens to promote long-term sustainability and avoid inflation. As of October 15, 2025, SUI trades at approximately $2.72 USD, with a 24-hour trading volume exceeding $1.3 billion and a market cap in the top 20-30 cryptocurrencies (prices fluctuate; check live data for updates). Key uses include:

  • Transaction Fees (Gas): Paid in SUI (or subunits called MIST, where 1 SUI = 1 billion MIST) for processing and storage.

  • Staking: Holders stake SUI to secure the network and earn rewards.

  • Governance: Token holders vote on protocol upgrades.
