Automatic sign-out after inactivity

Bookboost can sign you out automatically after a chosen period of inactivity, warning you first, to protect screens that are sometimes left unattended.

If you work on a shared computer, such as a reception desk, more than one person can end up looking at a screen the last operator forgot to sign out of. You can now have Bookboost sign an operator out automatically after a chosen period with no activity, so a screen left unattended does not stay open indefinitely.

What it does

Your organisation can turn on an inactivity timeout and choose how long a session may sit idle, from a few minutes up to a week. It is off by default.

One minute before the timeout is reached, an Are you still there? dialog appears with a live countdown and a Stay signed in button. Clicking, typing or scrolling anywhere in Bookboost keeps the session open; the sign-out only goes ahead if the screen is genuinely untouched. Moving the mouse on its own does not count as activity. This is deliberate, so that a mouse nudged by accident on an unattended desk does not keep a session open.

Activity in any open Bookboost tab keeps every tab signed in, and when the timeout is reached, every tab is signed out together, none are left behind. Closing the browser does not stop the clock either: if you come back after the timeout has passed, you will need to sign in again, whether or not the tab or browser was closed in the meantime.

Each device is independent. Working in Bookboost on one computer does not keep a session alive on another, and an automatic sign-out on one device never interrupts work on the others.

Every automatic sign-out is logged internally by Bookboost, alongside sign-ins and manual sign-outs. This is not a screen inside the platform: if you need this information for a security review, ask your Customer Success manager or support.

If you are ever signed out and are not sure why, this may be the reason. See Why can't I log in? if signing back in is itself the problem.

How to set this up?

There is no self-service switch for this yet. Contact your Customer Success manager or Bookboost support to turn on the inactivity timeout for your organisation and agree the duration.

What this does not do

  • It does not save your work for you. Anything you have not saved when the sign-out happens is lost, in the same way as if the browser had been closed. Treat the warning dialog as your moment to save.

  • It cannot be turned on or changed by you directly. Enabling or adjusting the timeout goes through your Customer Success manager or Bookboost support, not a setting in the platform.

  • Mouse movement on its own will not keep you signed in. You need to click, type or scroll. A screen that is only being read, without any of these, will eventually reach the warning.
