Collaborate with your team without leaving a conversation. Inside any Inbox conversation, switch the composer to Comment to add an internal note that only your team can see, and type @ to mention a colleague and pull them in. The guest never sees any of it. Internal notes show up as distinct purple bubbles so they are easy to tell apart from customer messages.
How it works
Internal comments. Add private notes inside a conversation thread. They are visible only to your team and never to the guest.
@mentions. Tag one or more teammates in a note by typing @ and picking them from the list.
Notifications. Anyone you mention gets notified, so they can jump into the conversation quickly — as long as they have the Mentioned notification switched on. See Inbox notifications.
Mentions view. A dedicated view in the inbox shows every conversation where you were mentioned.
Jump to comment. Click a mention notification to go straight to that note in the conversation.
Clearly separated. Internal notes appear as distinct purple bubbles, easy to tell apart from customer messages.
How to leave an internal comment
Open the conversation in your Inbox.
In the composer, switch from Reply to Comment.
Type your note. To bring a colleague in, type @ and choose them from the list.
Select Add comment. The comment appears as a purple bubble in the thread, visible only to your team.
Anyone you mentioned is notified and can click through to the note. To find everything addressed to you, open the Mentions view in the inbox.
What you can do with it
Hand off without switching tools. Ask a colleague to follow up on a guest request without leaving the conversation.
Loop in a specialist. Bring in billing, maintenance, or another team with the full context already in the thread.
Smooth shift handovers. Leave a note for the next shift so nothing gets lost.
Remove a note you no longer need. Delete an internal comment at any time.
What this does not do
It does not support rich formatting. Comments are plain text.
It does not support GIFs or emoji reactions.
It does not let you edit a comment. Once posted, a comment cannot be changed. You can delete it and post a new one.
It does not mention whole teams. You can mention individual colleagues only.
Common questions
How do I know when someone mentions me?
You get a notification. Click it to jump straight to that note in the conversation, or open the Mentions view in the inbox to see every conversation where you were tagged.
Colleagues are mentioning me but I am not hearing about it.
Check that the Mentioned event is switched on under Messaging > Inbox Settings > Notifications, and that you are subscribed to the channel you expect it on. A channel you have just subscribed to starts with every event off. See Inbox notifications. The Mentions view in the inbox still lists everything you were tagged in either way.
Can I edit or delete a comment?
You can delete an internal comment you no longer need. Comments cannot be edited after they are sent.
What to do next
If you are handing a conversation to a colleague rather than only flagging it, mention them in a comment and then assign the conversation to them, so it appears in their own view as well as in their mentions.
