Introduction
When setting up a Journey campaign in Bookboost, most of the configuration happens across the trigger, audience, and message template steps. However, there is a set of Advanced Settings available at the final Review and Publish stage that can significantly affect how β and to whom β your campaign is delivered. There are three toggles in this panel: Shorten Links, First Per Day, and Prioritize Language. Understanding each one helps you avoid common delivery issues and configure your Journey campaigns correctly for every scenario, including group bookings.
Main Concept or Feature Explanation
The Advanced Settings panel is found in the last step of the Journey campaign builder: Review and Publish β Advanced (at the bottom of the page, next to the Publish buttons).
The panel contains three toggles, each controlling a distinct behaviour.
π Shorten Links
When enabled, Bookboost automatically shortens any URLs included in your campaign messages. This is recommended for SMS and WhatsApp campaigns for two reasons: shortened links enable click tracking (you can see who clicked), and they prevent messages from being blocked. The platform warns that if links are sent via a public shortener in SMS, messages will most likely not be delivered to guests with phone numbers from the Nordics region due to carrier restrictions. Keeping Bookboost's own shortener enabled avoids this problem.
π First Per Day
When enabled, Bookboost will send the campaign only once per day per guest profile, even if multiple reservations for that same profile trigger the campaign on the same day. This is a deduplication mechanism designed to prevent guests from receiving the same message multiple times in a single day. When disabled, the campaign fires individually for each reservation that meets the trigger conditions, regardless of how many reservations the same guest profile has on that day.
π Prioritize Language
When enabled, the system determines which message template to send based on the guest's preferred language, even if that means choosing a different channel than the default. In other words, language takes priority over channel. When disabled, channel preference takes priority, and the system will send via the preferred channel using whichever language template is available for that channel.
Use Cases
π± SMS to Nordic guests: Keep Shorten Links enabled to use Bookboost's own shortener and avoid carrier blocks for Nordic phone numbers.
π Tracking clicks: Enable Shorten Links to unlock click tracking for SMS and WhatsApp. If disabled, click data will not be available.
π¨ Group bookings: A group booking can have multiple reservations linked to the same guest profile. With First Per Day enabled, only one campaign fires per day β so only one reservation gets confirmed. Disable First Per Day when each reservation in the group should receive its own individual message.
π Modified reservation campaigns: When several reservations in a group have their travel dates updated on the same day, First Per Day will suppress all but the first send. Disabling ensures all reservations receive individual update notifications.
π€ Repeat guests with multiple upcoming stays: Keep First Per Day enabled to prevent a guest with several reservations from receiving the same pre-arrival message multiple times in one day.
π Multilingual properties: Enable Prioritize Language when you want guests to receive messages in their preferred language, even if it means using a secondary channel.
π£ Channel-first properties: Disable Prioritize Language if your priority is always delivering via a specific channel, and language flexibility is secondary.
Configuration and Setup
Navigate to Campaigns in the left-hand menu and open the relevant Journey campaign.
Click through to the Review and Publish step.
At the bottom of the page, click on βοΈ Advanced to open the Advanced Settings panel.
Configure the three toggles as you wish:
Shorten Links β Keep enabled unless you have a specific reason not to.
First Per Day β Enable for standard guest journeys where one message per day per guest is sufficient. Disable for group bookings or scenarios where each individual reservation must receive its own campaign.
Prioritize Language β Enable if language matching is more important than channel preference. Disable to always send via the primary channel regardless of language.
Click Publish & Start Sending or Publish As Inactive depending on whether you are ready to go live.
π‘ Tip: If you are troubleshooting why only some reservations in a group received a Journey campaign, always check First Per Day first β it is the most common cause of this behaviour.
Known Issues or Limitations
β οΈ "First Per Day" and the 30-minute deduplication window are two separate mechanisms β both can independently cause a Journey campaign to appear to skip certain reservations:
The 30-minute window (on update triggers) prevents multiple sends when the same reservation is updated several times in quick succession. The system waits 30 minutes and sends once with the latest data.
The "First Per Day" setting prevents multiple sends when different reservations belonging to the same guest profile all trigger the campaign on the same day.
If a group booking campaign is only partially firing, check both settings before investigating further.
β οΈ Shorten Links and tracking: Disabling Shorten Links means you will lose click-tracking data for SMS and WhatsApp campaigns. This setting does not affect email tracking.
Conclusion
The three Advanced Settings toggles β Shorten Links, First Per Day, and Prioritize Language β each control a distinct and important behaviour in how your Journey campaigns are delivered. Shorten Links ensures delivery and enables tracking. First Per Day prevents duplicate sends but must be disabled for group booking scenarios. Prioritize Language ensures guests receive messages in their preferred language when it matters most. Reviewing these settings before publishing every Journey campaign helps avoid unexpected delivery gaps and missed guest confirmations. β
