Set up opt-out and unsubscribe options

The three routes a guest can take to opt out, and what revoked consent means for your campaigns.

Guests need a way out, and there are three of them in Bookboost: a link in the campaign, a self-service page, or an Operator doing it by hand. Whichever route a guest takes, the result is the same. Their consent status becomes revoked, and every campaign that requires implicit or explicit consent excludes them from then on.

You can see where a guest stands at the bottom of their profile, under Consents. A granted consent shows with a checkmark.

A guest with nothing granted shows "There are no active consents for this guest".

Method 1: An unsubscribe link in the campaign

This is the one you need on every marketing campaign, and in most countries it is a legal requirement rather than a nicety.

  1. Open your campaign message template.

  2. Insert the unsubscribe token into the message body. It is in the template token list.

  3. Save and activate the campaign.

When a guest clicks the link, their consent is set to revoked immediately.

No confirmation is sent to the guest. The revocation is silent from Bookboost's side. If your guests expect a "you have been unsubscribed" message, build a separate campaign triggered by consent revocation.

Method 2: Guest self-service through the Guest App

Use this when guests should be able to change their preferences rather than only switch everything off.

  1. Go to Guest App.

  2. Create or edit a page.

  3. Add a consent form element, so guests can see and update their own preferences.

  4. Share the link, for example in a pre-stay campaign or at check-in.

Method 3: An Operator revokes it manually

For requests that arrive by phone, by email, or at the front desk.

  1. Open the guest's Profile.

  2. Open the Consent tab and find the relevant consent.

  3. Set it to revoked, and save.

What this does not do

  • Revocation is per consent, not per guest. Revoking marketing email does not revoke WhatsApp or SMS. Each one has to be handled separately, so a guest who says "stop contacting me" may need several consents revoked.

  • No confirmation email. Bookboost does not tell the guest their request went through. Handle it yourself if that matters to you.

  • Revoked guests drop out of audience counts. Revoked and anonymised profiles are excluded from audiences, so campaign reach figures will fall as opt-outs accumulate. That is correct behaviour, not a reporting error.

What to do next

For choosing between one global unsubscribe and per-category unsubscribes, see Unsubscribe options in email. For what revoked means alongside the other statuses, see Consent management essentials.
