Why admins do not automatically have access to teams

Admin permissions and team membership are separate, so an admin has to add themselves to a team before they can open its tickets.

If you are an admin and a ticket tells you "You don't have access to the team. To join the ticket, please request access from your admin", nothing is broken and you do not need to ask anyone. Admin permissions and team membership are separate in Bookboost. Add yourself to the team and the ticket opens.

The message shown when an admin has no access to a team

Adding yourself to a team

  1. Go to Inbox settings.

  2. Select Teams.

  3. Click the team you want to join.

  4. Open the Access tab.

  5. Add yourself as a member.

You then have full access to that team's inbox and tickets. There are no restrictions on which teams an admin can join, and you can do it at any time.

Why it works this way

Being an admin means you can manage the platform. It does not mean you are answering guest messages. Most admins are in one or two teams at most, and adding every admin to every team automatically would flood their Inbox and their notifications with conversations that are not theirs.

Keeping the two separate means team membership stays a deliberate choice, and the people in a team are the people actually covering it.

What this does not do

  • The message is not an error. It appears whenever anyone, admin or not, opens a ticket belonging to a team they are not in.

  • Access is not granted retrospectively. Joining a team gives you its tickets from then on; you are not notified about what you missed.

  • Non-admins cannot add themselves. They do have to ask an admin, which is what the message says.

What to do next

If you are joining teams to cover for someone, consider whether the team's notification settings suit you. See Inbox notifications, and Teams in Unified Inbox for how teams are set up.
