A messaging popup is a small message that appears out of the chat widget on your website, without the visitor clicking anything first. Use it to put an offer, a link, or a short prompt in front of someone while they are still browsing.
Messaging popups were previously called Proactive Notifications, so you may still see that name in older material.
Creating a messaging popup
Click Interact in the left main menu of the platform.
Open Messaging Popups at the top of the page.
Either click Templates and pick one, which pre-fills the popup for you, or start from scratch.
Choose the message type (see below).
Fill in the title and the message content. If you chose a type with a button, fill in the button text as well.
Set the targeting and the trigger, then save with the status you want.
The three message types
Text revealed by a button. The visitor clicks the button and a further piece of text appears. Useful for sharing a discount code.
Button that opens a link. The visitor clicks the button and goes to a page you choose. Useful for sending people straight to your booking engine.
Text only. No button, just the message.
Deciding who sees it
Targeting filters control which website visitors a popup is shown to, so you can run different popups for different people. You can target on things like how many times someone has visited your website, or whether they are on a particular page.
Because each popup has its own filters, a returning visitor and a first-time visitor can see completely different messages on the same page.
Deciding when it appears
Welcome. The popup appears a set time after the visitor opens the website.
Exit. The popup appears once, when the visitor moves the cursor outside the web page.
Draft, inactive, and active
Draft. Not finished. Nothing is shown to visitors, and you can come back to it later.
Inactive. Finished but deliberately switched off. Use this when the popup is ready and you are waiting to launch it, or when you want to pause one that has been running.
Active. Live on your website now.
What this does not do
Website only. Messaging popups appear through the chat widget on your website. They are not sent by email, SMS, or WhatsApp, and they do not reach guests who are not currently browsing.
The Exit trigger fires once. It shows a single time when the cursor leaves the page, not every time.
Targeting works on website behaviour. Filters are based on what a visitor does on your site, not on reservation data.
What to do next
Save the popup as Inactive first, check the wording and the link, then switch it to Active when you are happy with it.
