The reservation update triggers

The three update triggers, what counts as an update, and how the 30-minute window works.

When a reservation changes, guests need the new details. Bookboost handles this with three triggers, and all three behave the same way: they wait 30 minutes before sending, so several changes made in quick succession arrive as one message rather than four.

The three triggers

  • After the Reservation was Updated. Fires on changes to the reservation, but not on changes to space types.

  • After the Reservation or Space Type was Updated. Also includes changes to the number of guests, the start or end date, and the space type.

  • After the Reservation or Charged Space Type was Updated. As above, and also includes updates to charged space types.

The three update triggers in the trigger list

What counts as an update

The trigger fires when one of these changes:

  • The number of guests.

  • The start or end date.

  • The space type, meaning the room type or area.

A change to the guest's email address does not fire the trigger. It does, however, redirect any campaign already scheduled, so the message goes to the new address rather than the old one.

How the 30-minute window works

  • After an update, the system waits 30 minutes before sending, so that further changes in that window are gathered into one message.

  • If a campaign is already scheduled, additional updates within those 30 minutes do not schedule another one.

  • The clock runs from the last update, not the first.

  • The message always contains the latest information at the moment it sends, however many changes happened in the window.

  • If the reservation was created less than 30 minutes before the update, no update campaign is scheduled at all.

This is also worth knowing when a campaign appears to skip a reservation. The 30-minute window and the First Per Day setting are two separate mechanisms that can each suppress a send. See Journey campaign advanced settings.
