A variable dosage will be added to a medication when there is a varying amount that the resident needs to take on each administration. An example of this would be Paracetamol with the dose ‘Take ONE to TWO tablets FOUR times a day’.
To set up a variable dosage follow this process:
1. log into Atlas eMAR and select the view residents’ icon at the top right-hand corner of the screen. Select the resident in question from the list and then click the medication bar at the top of the screen.
2. If this is a new medication for the resident then select add drug at the top of the screen. Begin entering the name of the medication and a list will appear with a variety of medications you could be trying to enter; select the correct item from the list ensuring that it is the correct strength and form as well as ingredient. If the resident is already taking the medication, then select the medication from the list that appears and click on the details icon. At the top of the screen select the edit drug option.
3. The second option down is named variable dose, this is set to no by default. By selecting the slider it will change to a yes. Ensure that the wording of the dosage is correct, or changed to include the new variable dose.
4. Select schedule and click on each individual time to enter the maximum and minimum quantity for each administration. Click the edit icon to save each of these and to move on to the next. Then press save changes at the bottom of the screen.
5. Once completed the device will need to be synchronised.
