Sometimes a medication needs to have the option to be a regular dose at the same time as able to be given "when required". These types medication dosages will still need to prompt at the set time that it is due every day, as well as giving additional doses as and when they are required by the resident. The dose will normally appear as ‘Take ONE tablet THREE times a day AND when required’ as an example.
To set up this type of dosage instruction follow this process:
1. Log into Atlas eMAR, select the view residents’ icon and choose the resident by selecting them from the list. Select the medication bar at the top of the screen. At this stage you have two options; to either add a new medication with this dosage or to edit an existing medications dose.
2. Select the medication you wish to change from the medication list and click the details icon, then select edit drug at the top of the screen. For a new medication, click add drug at the top of the screen. Check that the medication name, strength and form are correct or enter these into the field. From this point on the steps will be the same for both editing and adding the medication.
3. Underneath the medication name there is a ‘when required’ icon which as default is set to no. To set up the medication as "when required" select the icon to move the slider to yes.
4. Enter the correct dosage into the field and then click on schedule. From the list given, select the relevant schedule set up and save changes. Check that the dosage reminders icon states yes to ensure the "structured" part of the dosage prompts at the appropriate time.
5. Once you select the next icon at the bottom of the screen another user will need to witness the changes and the Atlas device should be synchronised.
