Medication may not be administered for a number of reason, but the reason for not giving the administration is just as important to account for as the given items for auditing purposes.
Medication not administered for three consecutive days will be flagged on the daily report allowing staff to monitor such items and so that the medication can be reviewed by the prescriber if necessary.
To mark a medication as ‘not given’, first log into Atlas eMAR and select the view residents’ icon. Select the resident to whom you are trying to administer medication and click on the medication bar at the top of the screen. From the list of medication, select the one which you are unable to give for one of the above reasons and click the not given icon.
This item will then appear in yellow as it has been actioned and, once the pot has been confirmed, the item will remain in orange to indicate to users it has not been give and can be attempted at later time if required.
