Add Prep stations and courses in the Tebi App

Updated over 2 months ago

In Tebi, any place in your establishment where orders are prepared, is called a Prep Station. Prep Stations can be accessed on a dedicated device, such as a small tablet in your kitchen or coffee corner, but it’s also possible to configure a printer to print prep order receipts.

Add a Prep Station:

  • Go to the Tebi App > Settings > Prep Stations

  • Go to the section Prep Stations, click Create new

  • Enter the name of the Prep Station

  • Select the type of Prep Station: Digital or Printer

Printer Prep Stations

  • Printer Prep Stations print prep orders as they come in

  • Turn on the toggle to Print a separate prep ticket for each product

  • Click Save

  • Click on the Delete Prep station button to remove this Prep stations

Learn how to connect your printer and configure your receipt settings.

Note: You can set up multiple prep stations for one printer.

Digital Prep Stations

  • Display Prep Stations use a dedicated tablet to show prep orders digitally

  • Select the required Preparation Steps

  • Hit Save, and your first Prep Station will be ready to go

Configuring Prep Station Settings in the App

The Settings screen controls how tickets look and behave on a single prep device. Here you can adjust the display, which statuses appear, what shows in the ticket header, and how course timers count up during service. Changes you make apply only to this device.

  • In the App > go to Prep station

  • Select the three dots in the top right

  • Click on Settings

Display

View modes

  • Rails - Shows tickets in vertical columns with horizontal scrolling. Use when you want clear “rails” per course or station and prefer to swipe sideways through tickets.

  • Grid - Shows tickets in a fixed-size grid with vertical scrolling. Use when you want a balanced overview of many tickets that all use the same card size.

  • Gallery - Shows tickets in rows with a defined row height and vertical scrolling. Use when you want larger, easier-to-read tickets while still seeing several on screen.

  • Compact gallery - Shows tickets in a masonry-style grid with vertical scrolling; ticket height depends on its content. Use when you want to see the maximum number of tickets at once and do not mind that rows are uneven in height.

Grid size

  • Columns - Controls how many ticket columns are shown in Grid and Gallery modes. When set to Automatic, Tebi chooses the number of columns based on screen size.

  • Automatically set columns - Turn this on to let Tebi pick the column count automatically. Turn it off if you want to set a fixed number of columns yourself.

Ticket text size

Controls how large ticket text appears on this prep station.

  • Small – Fits more tickets on screen; best when the screen is nearby.

  • Large – Easier to read from a distance; fewer tickets visible at once.

Statuses

Visible statuses

Choose which statuses appear on this prep station. Tickets in an unselected status are hidden from the list. At least one status must remain selected.

Allowed statuses

Choose which statuses staff on this prep station can move tickets to. Tickets can still be shown in other statuses (if visible), but those statuses are read-only and cannot be selected from this device.

Header

Controls what is shown at the top of each ticket on this prep station.

Header info

Choose which fields appear in the ticket header:

  • Table – shows the table number.

  • Pickup time – shows the scheduled pickup / serve time.

  • Sale name – shows the sale or guest name (useful for takeaway and delivery).

Header text size

Sets the font size of the header:

  • Small / Medium – fits more ticket content on screen.

  • Large – easier to read from a distance.

Course timers

Controls what the course timer on this prep station counts from.

  • From last status change - Timer starts when the course last changed status. Best when you want to track time in the current stage.

  • From fire time - Timer starts when the course was fired. Best when you monitor how long a course has been in progress since firing.

  • From order time - Timer starts when the order was placed. Best when you care about total guest wait time from ordering to serving.

Advanced

Controls speed, ordering, and visual behavior on this prep station.

  • Enable quick mode - When on, you can close a ticket by tapping the top of the ticket and mark products done with a single tap. Use in fast services where staff are comfortable with one-tap actions.

  • Reorder tickets when status changes - When on, tickets automatically move when their current course changes status. Tickets with the same status are grouped together so the most relevant work stays at the top.

Unfired courses

Choose how unfired courses are shown inside tickets:

  • Collapse all unfired courses – hide details for all future courses.

  • Expand all unfired courses – always show details for all courses.

  • Expand the next unfired course only – show only the upcoming course; collapse later ones.

Animate ticket layout

When on, tickets smoothly animate when they move or resize. Turn off for instant changes or if staff prefer less on-screen motion.

Add Courses

  • In the App > go to Settings > Prep stations

  • Go to the section Courses, click Create new

  • Enter the name of the course (e.g. Starters)

  • Hit Save

Course Firing

Select how to fire courses:

  • Parallel: all products from all courses in a ticket will be automatically sent to the kitchen at once

  • Manual: individually send courses to the kitchen from the Sales screen

  • Sequential: the first course is auto-fired, with other courses firing automatically when the previous one is completed

  • Hybrid: The first course will be fired automatically when you submit the first order. After this you fire the other courses manually from the sales screen or within the prep station.

Add products to Prep Stations and Courses:

  • Go to the Tebi App > Products

  • Select a product

  • Go to the section Preparation

    • Select the Prep St

    • ation location. When a product is ordered, a ticket will be sent to that station.

    • Assign a product to a default course

    • Set the preparation priority (High, Medium or Low). This determines the order in which products will be shown in a prep ticket. That way products that take longer to prepare will appear at the top of a prep ticket, while the faster products appear at the end. For example, apply a preparation priority of ‘high’ to a product which takes 20 minutes to prepare and a low priority to a product that takes 5 minutes to prepare.

    • Turn on Use customization color in digital prep station to reuse the product’s customization color (as shown in the ordering experience) on this digital prep station.

    • Enter a Prep station name if you want a different name to appear on the prep ticket.

  • Hit Save
