Whether it's for a loan application, a funding request or an official enquiry, you often need your submitted tax return. In the smarta web app, Downloads holds every tax return we have submitted to the tax office for you. They are sorted by year and available as a PDF at any time, with no need to contact us.
Before you start
You have access to the smarta web app.
We have submitted at least one tax return for you. Until then, this section doesn't appear.
Which tax returns you'll find there
Profit and loss statement (EÜR)
Annual VAT return
Trade tax return
Income tax return
For each return, you'll find the document that was submitted to the tax office: either the ELSTER transmission protocol or the submitted return as a PDF. If both exist, you'll see both documents listed.
How to find your tax returns
After logging in to the smarta web app, you'll find Downloads in the left-hand navigation.
The Tax declarations tile appears at the top of the page. Clicking it opens the overview.
The overview is sorted by year, with the most recent year at the top. Within a year, each tax return has its own card.
Each card lists the submitted documents with the date they were transmitted (Submitted on …).
The download icon to the right of a document lets you open and save the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
I can't see the "Tax declarations" tile.
The tile only appears once we have submitted at least one tax return for you. Returns you have approved that haven't been submitted yet don't show up here yet.
A tax return is missing from the overview.
This can happen, mainly with the income tax return and especially for earlier years. Just drop us a short message saying which year you need, and we'll make sure the document appears in the web app.
Why does a document say "Submitted return" instead of a date?
For some documents we don't have the exact transmission date. The return was still submitted to the tax office.
Why does a tax return appear twice?
If a return was corrected and submitted again, you'll see both submissions, each with its own date. The most recent one is the current version.
Can I find my tax assessments here too?
No, this section only holds your submitted tax returns. Tax assessments (Steuerbescheide) from the tax office aren't included here.
Where can I find my VAT pre-returns, recapitulative statements (ZM) or the tax registration questionnaire?
Each of these has its own tile under Downloads: VAT Declarations, Recapitulative Statements (ZM) and Tax registration questionnaire.
A message says your tax returns could not be loaded.
This is usually a temporary issue, and the page normally opens again after a few minutes. If it doesn't, feel free to get in touch.
