Key to any decarbonisation strategy is the selection and implementation of the actions you will take to reduce your organisation's emissions.
Watch the video below to put Plan A's Action Plan into the wider context of your sustainability journey.
How to add an action to your Action Plan
Firstly, navigate to the 'Reduce Emissions' dashboard and select the 'Actions' tab.
From there you will see a list of 'Predefined Actions' as well as a tab for 'Custom Actions'.
Please note that it is currently not possible to apply actions to individual facilities. Rather, all actions will be applied to the whole organisation.
Predefined Actions
Predefined Actions are a series of decarbonisation actions pre-selected by our in-house experts.
Industry-specific actions are also available for some industries. To see if these are available for your industry, make sure that this is set in your Company Settings. If industry-specific actions are available, they will show on the Actions page.
Emission Reduction Potential (ERP)
Most Predefined Actions have an 'emission reduction potential' (ERP) value, which shows the maximum reductions expected per month if an Action is adopted with 100% take-up (e.g. if the Action, 'Switch your energy provider' is implemented for all facilities). This is calculated based on the potential impact the Action can have on your most recent emissions values.
If 'N/A' shows, this could be for a few reasons, including:
An absence of relevant emissions data for the relevant category (e.g. there is no purchased electricity data uploaded from which to calculate an ERP for 'Switch your energy provider'),
The action would have no impact on your emissions or has already been implemented (e.g. your purchased electricity is already from 100% renewable sources),
Or there is no ERP available for a particular action.
To find out more about a particular action, click the three dots on the right and select configure action.
A box will appear which shows a description of the action and how to plan and implement it.
At the bottom, you can configure the action and add it to your plan. To do this:
Mark the status of the action, beginning most likely with 'Planned'.
Enter the start date and due date for planning and implementing the action.
Assign the team member responsible for planning and implementing the action.
Click 'Save'.
Once these have been updated, the new status and assignee will be reflected on the Actions tab, with all selected actions at the top of the page:
You can also click on the Action title to bring you to a shareable page with all necessary information for that action, including the description, status, assignee, and due date. Viewers must be registered users to access these pages.
Custom Actions
Custom Actions allow you to record decarbonisation actions that you may have implemented or want to implement in your organisation, which are not (yet) featured as Predefined Actions.
To begin, click the 'Add custom action' button in the top right of the view.
Enter the following information:
Action name
This should be an understandable title that clearly describes the decarbonisation action's core aspect. Try to keep this brief.
Description
This can be as detailed or as light as you see fit. However, it is a good opportunity to clearly note all necessary steps, from planning and ideation to testing and the criteria for successful implementation.
Action category
State the relevant group of actions that this belongs to. Select from Electricity, Heating, Business, Commute, Facility, Behaviour, Maintenance, Electrification and Fleet Management.
Status
Here, you can select the 'status' of the action: planned, completed, in progress, or on hold.
Start date and Due date (optional)
These are dates between which you plan to work on implementing your action taking into account the various stages of planning, testing, and implementing the final version of your action.
Assignee (optional)
Assign your action to whoever is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the action.
Emission reduction potential (optional)
Select the impacted emission categories (you can select multiple) and enter an emission reduction percentage. This should reflect the action's expected or maximum emission reduction potential if adopted to 100%. Once saved, this will be expressed under the Custom Action tab in kg CO2e/month, and will also be reflected in your Emissions Forecast.
Once you have filled in this information, click 'Save', and the Custom Action will show under the 'Custom Actions' tab:
What's next?
Once you have added Predefined actions to your plan, have a look at the Analytics page to see how your planned emissions reduction actions impact your forecasted emissions.
The next step is to implement your actions! As you progress, you can quickly change the status by using the dropdown selector:
