On May 21st, 2024, we transitioned to a new database, Exiobase, for our spend-based emission factors. Therefore any spend data that is uploaded or reuploaded after that date will be subject to new emission factors. Learn more here.
For any calculation method where you can enter Spend usage data, you are required to enter a three letter currency code under the "value.currency" column. You can add any currency that is relevant to you in the spend-based templates, and this will be converted accordingly and shown in the emissions dashboards, depending on the currency or unit in which you choose to visualise your data.
How are currencies converted?
Plan A uses the exchange rates provided by currencylayer and utilises the applicable exchange rate from the 1st of each month in the given data timeframe.
This means that if you input your spend data all in one row with the start and end date as (e.g.) 2022-01-01 to 2022-12-31, the spend amount will be divided across the twelve months, and the exchange rate from the 1st of each month will be applied. This allows us to capture exchange rate fluctuations throughout the year, and ensure the accuracy of your calculations.
If you have any abnormally large individual transactions, we suggest that you separate them into a separate row of data so that the fluctuation is captured and the granularity of your emissions data is maintained.
Keep in mind, the currency that you select in Company Settings, will be the currency used in the emission dashboards to analyse your spend data. If you upload data in a variety of currencies, they will also be converted into your selected currency as described above.
In the example below, you can see that the currency has been set to Euros (β¬), so all activity data that has been uploaded in any other currency has been converted.
