Blockages in your home

Updated this week

What should I do in case of a blockage and how can I prevent it?

Blockages can happen in any household and are often unpleasant. In most cases, you are responsible for preventing and resolving blockages in your apartment. Fortunately, many issues can be avoided or solved with simple steps.

Preventing blockages

A simple and natural way to keep your pipes clean is by regularly using baking soda and boiling water.

Flush a mixture of baking soda (or cleaning soda) and boiling water down your sink once a week to prevent dirt build-up. This helps avoid blockages without using harsh chemicals.

What to do in case of a blockage?

Start by using a sink unblocker (plunger).

You can also use a drain cleaner such as HG Sink Unblocker. These products are designed to remove common blockages and can often solve the issue quickly.

Important to know

We advise not to use two-component drain cleaners.

These products create a strong chemical reaction that can damage or melt plastic pipes. If damage is caused this way, the repair costs may be charged to you as the tenant.

When to seek professional help

If the blockage cannot be resolved, you can contact a professional drain cleaning service.

Please note that the costs are usually the tenant’s responsibility.

If it turns out that the blockage is located in the main or shared pipe, the issue is not your responsibility and LIV Residential will cover the costs.
