What is two-step verification?

Two-step verification, also called two-factor authentication, 2FA or MFA, is a second check when you sign in to Huggg Payouts. How it works and how to turn it on.

Two-step verification, also called two-factor authentication or 2FA, adds a second check when you sign in to Huggg Payouts. After your password, you enter a 6-digit code from a text message or an authenticator app.

💡 Why it matters

Two-step verification stops someone signing in with your password alone. If your password is ever guessed or leaked, the code is still needed to get into your account.

Your Huggg Payouts account holds your wallet balance and the details of the people you send vouchers to. The second check protects both.

🔒 How it works

After you enter your password, Huggg asks for a 6-digit code. You choose how you get that code when you set two-step verification up.

There are two methods. A text message sends the code to your mobile number. An authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, creates a new code on your phone every 30 seconds.

Text message codes work for UK mobile numbers only. If your number is not UK-based, use an authenticator app instead.

You can set up both methods and use whichever suits you at the time.

Tick Remember this device and that browser or device skips the code for 30 days. A new device always asks again.

Each person sets up two-step verification on their own account.

📋 How to turn on two-step verification

To turn on two-step verification for your account:

  1. Click your team name in the top right of your dashboard.

  2. Click My account. Your settings page opens.

  3. Find Two-step verification, near the bottom of the settings page. It shows Off until you set up a method.

  4. Click ADD next to Text message or Authenticator app.

  5. For a text message, enter your mobile number and confirm it with the code sent to you. For an authenticator app, scan the QR code on screen with your app.

  6. Save the backup codes you're given somewhere safe. You'll need them if you lose access to your phone.

Huggg then asks for your code each time you sign in, unless you've marked the device as remembered.

⚙️ Requiring it across your team

Admins can require two-step verification for everyone on the team. Go to the Teams tab, in the left-hand menu of your dashboard, and turn on the toggle. Anyone who has not set it up yet is asked to the next time they sign in.

This does not apply if your team signs in with single sign-on (SSO). SSO is managed by your identity provider, and two-step verification sits outside it.

🔑 If you can't get your code

If you lose your phone or change your mobile number, use one of your backup codes to sign in. If you're locked out without your backup codes, email support@huggg.me. We will check who you are and get you back into your account.
