Items in your garden plan each belong to a different 'layer'. This means you can easily work with separate elements of your plan without affecting other layers.
Layer Priority
Each item on your plan belongs to one of these five layers:
Layout (objects that are positioned 'underneath' others, such as paths, containers, raised beds and shapes)
Irrigation
Plants
Text
Structures (objects that are positioned 'on top' of others such as greenhouses, cold frames, sheds, supports and compost bins)
Any item within a layer can be reordered by bringing it to the front (on top of all other items in that layer) or sending it to the back (behind all other items in that layer). You can also lock any item so that it cannot be accidentally moved or deleted.
(Be aware that changing the order of items can only be done within a layer - so, for instance, a path can never be brought to the front so that it sits on top of a shed.)
Bringing Items to the Front and Sending to the Back
Items on the same layer will appear on your plan in the order you added them. For example, if you add items in the Layout layer such as a container, a path, and then a grass-texture filled rectangle shape in that order, the area of grass may hide smaller items on your plan.
To make smaller items visible again, one option is to send the larger item to the back. Click on the item once to select it, then click on Send To Back on the top toolbar. Click on the grid to deselect the item, and other items will then be visible 'on top' of the larger one.
Alternatively, you can bring an item that could end up hidden to the front. Click on the item to select it, then click on Bring to Front in your toolbar.
Please note that when you select an item, it automatically appears in front of others, but this is temporary. Use Bring to Front to make sure it's always shown on top of other items in that layer.
How to Lock Items in Place
When you have an item positioned perfectly on your plan, you can lock it so you cannot accidentally move or delete it.
First click on the item on your plan, then click on the lock icon on the top toolbar.
You can lock multiple items at the same time by either using the Selection Tool, or by keeping the Shift key on your keyboard held down while you click on each item:
How to Unlock Items
If you want to make any changes to a locked item, you need to unlock it. First click on the Layers drop-down menu on the top toolbar, then select Locked Items:
Any locked items will then become editable. Click on an item to select it, then click the unlock icon in your toolbar to unlock it.
Finally, select Edit All from the Layers drop-down menu so you can make changes to unlocked items.
