NS Business Card

Collection: NS Business Card · For: Employees & Admins

Figo Mobility partners with NS (Nederlandse Spoorwegen) to offer a fully integrated NS Business Card solution. Employees can make use of the OV fiets, parking at P+R and travel by train, bus, tram and metro across the Netherlands, all costs go directly to the organisation's account.

Admins manage everything (automated) through the Figo Dashboard, without needing a separate NS portal.

Note: It is also possible to check in on public transport using the Figo TravelCard. However, this article covers the NS Business Card only. For information about the Figo TravelCard, see the TravelCard article.

Sections marked: Employee, Admin or Both

What can you use the NS Business Card for? (Both)

  • Train, bus, tram and metro travel with all Dutch carriers

  • OV-Fiets - public transport bike rental at stations (if enabled)

  • P+R parking - park and ride near public transport hubs (if enabled)

  • And more NS Business card options

Which services are available depends on your organisation's setup.

Employees: check with your HR department.

How the NS Busienss Card works (Employee)

Hold your NS Business Card against a check-in gate when boarding, and check out again when you leave. If you switch carriers — for example from train to bus or carrier — check out first, then check in again with the new carrier.

Why manage NS Business Cards through Figo? (Admin)

  • All mobility in one place: NS Business Cards sit alongside your other Figo products in a single platform

  • Fully automated: card issuance, analyses & reporting, management and administration without manual steps

  • Cost optimisation: Figo analyses travel behaviour and recommends subscription changes to reduce costs

Connecting your NS contract to Figo (Admin)

Setting up the NS Business Card in Figo is straightforward. Follow these steps to get started:

  1. Go to Settings → Mobility products in the Dashboard

  2. Find NS Business Card and enable it

  3. Figo will then get in touch to set up the integration with your existing NS contract — or to set up a new contract with NS on your behalf if you don't have one yet

Note: Existing employees don't need new cards after connecting, they can continue using their current NS Business Cards straight away.

NS Business Card management setup options (Both)

During setup, organisations can choose how much control employees have over their own cards. There are three setups:

  • Fully managed by admin: the admin handles all card management; employees don't need to do anything

  • Partially self-managed: employees handle some steps in Mobility Center, but the admin approves card requests

  • Fully self-managed: employees manage their own cards in Mobility Center independently

Employees: not sure which setup applies to you? Contact your HR department.

Subscriptions (Both)

A subscription can be added to the NS Business Card to reduce travel costs. Not all organisations offer all subscriptions. When requesting a card in Mobility Center, the Figo assistant helps employees choose the right subscription based on their travel behaviour.

  • Basic Card
Pay per trip. Suitable for occasional travellers.

  • Dal subscription
Off-peak discount. Cost-effective from just one return trip per month.

  • Traject Vrij
Unlimited travel on a fixed route plus 40% discount on other routes off-peak.

  • Trein Vrij
    Unlimited train travel.

  • Traject op Maat (for >25 NS Business cards only)
A tailored and flexible subscription for specific travel patterns.

Figo automatically analyses travel behaviour over the past 3 months and sends a notification in employee email or Mobility Dashboard when a subscription change could save costs. Keep in mind that temporary situations — such as maternity leave — may affect the recommendation. Employees can always ask Figo or their HR department why a specific advice was given.

OV-fiets (Employee)

If you'd like to use the OV-fiets (public transport bike) as an employee, first check your mobility policy to see whether your employer allows it. If it's permitted, reach out via chat or email support@figo.app to request activation. Once activated, you'll be able to use the OV-fiets 24 hours later.

Requesting a new NS Business card or subscription (Both)

When a different subscription is needed, a new card must be requested. Figo cancels the old card on the start date of the new card - typically within 2 weeks. Once a card request has been submitted, it cannot be cancelled.

A passport photo (available via webcam or upload) is only required for personal subscriptions such as Traject Vrij or Trein Vrij. For basic cards, no photo is needed. Admins can add the photo via the employee's profile in the Dashboard. If the organisation has enabled it, employees can also upload it or use the webcam in Mobility Center.

Request an NS Card via Mobility Center (employee)

If your organisation allows self-managed cards, you can request an NS Business Card directly through Mobility Center. The Figo assistant helps you find the most suitable subscription based on your travel habits.

Request a card using the assistant

The easiest way is to use the built-in assistant, which recommends the right subscription for you.

  1. Click Request new Business Card

  2. The assistant opens with the question "Find the right subscription". Answer the following questions:

    • What type of public transport do you use on your commute? (bus/tram/metro only, train only, or both)

    • How many days a week do you commute to work?

    • Do you travel mostly during peak or off-peak hours?

    • Your departure station (home) and destination station (work)

  3. Click Advise — the assistant shows a recommended subscription with a summary of the product, route and monthly costs

  4. Click Select product to confirm, or choose a different subscription from the overview

  5. Complete the remaining steps to finalise your request

The assistant recommends the most cost-effective subscription based on your answers. You can also skip the assistant and select a subscription manually by clicking Manually at the bottom of the assistant screen.

After submitting your request

What happens next depends on your organisation's setup:

  • Auto-approved — your card is processed immediately after submission

  • Admin approval required — your HR department will review and approve the request before it is processed

Request an NS Card via Dashboard (Admin)

As an admin, you can request an NS Business Card on behalf of an employee directly from the Dashboard. This is useful when your organisation manages cards centrally, or when an employee needs a card without going through Mobility Center.

Steps to request a card

  1. Go to dashboard.figo.app and open the employee's profile

  2. Navigate to the Business Cards section and click Request

  3. Select a product you want to order (or use the assistent)

  4. Follow the steps and upload a passport photo (if needed)

  5. Click Request to finalise

After submitting

The card request is processed immediately. The card is sent to the delivery address configured for your organisation, either the employee's home address or your organisation's address.

Once a card request has been submitted, it cannot be cancelled. The new card is typically activated within 2 weeks. If the employee has an existing card, it will be automatically cancelled once the new one is activated.

Card delivery (Both)

During setup, organisations choose whether cards are sent to employees' home addresses or to the organisation, but in most cases they're sent to the organisation's address.

It can sometimes take a little longer for the card to arrive. Don't order a new one straight away, however we advice to wait al least three weeks first. If it still hasn't arrived by then, get in touch with us via de chat or suppprt@figo.app. This way we avoid a situation where you've just requested a replacement card and the original one arrives shortly after.

Split billing (Both)

Unlike standard NS contracts, Figo still supports a form of split billing. Trips are automatically labelled as business or private e.g. based on travel days or check-in and check-out stations. When enabled by your organisation it means employees can also use their subscription for private travel, for example getting the 40% off-peak discount. Private costs are typically processed via a payroll integration.

Employees: ask your HR department whether split billing is available for you.

Admins: contact your Figo account manager to enable this for your organisation.

New address due to moving? (Employee)

If you've moved and your commute changes, you may be eligible for a different subscription. If your employer has an integration with Figo, you will automatically receive an email prompting you to request a new card after updating your address.

Mobility policy (Both)

For the exact reimbursement rules and conditions that apply within your organisation, always contact your employer. Figo manages the card, but your organisation determines the mobility policy.
