This will go live on Tuesday 16th Dec and we will share a detailed user guide to walk you through the new functionality.

Decision Insights Version 2 represents a major expansion of the original DepenSys and mCare integration. It provides a deeper, more comprehensive view of a resident’s historical care needs by pulling structured activity and care-note information from mCare and surfacing it directly within DepenSys assessments. This release strengthens clinical decision-making, improves auditability, and increases assessor confidence by ensuring every dependency score is supported by real evidence from daily care delivery.

Decision Insights V2 gives homes:

  • More reliable dependency assessments

  • Clearer links between daily care and staffing requirements

  • Stronger evidence for CQC inspections and fee reviews

  • More confident and accurate decision-making by staff

  • A consistent, repeatable process across assessors

It elevates DepenSys from a staffing calculator into a data-driven acuity and insight tool, tightly connected with the real care delivered every day through mCare.

What Decision Insights Version 1 Delivered

Version 1 introduced the foundation of a shared data view between mCare and DepenSys. It provided a limited set of needs-based charts, giving assessors a simple, high-level view of certain care-note patterns to support decision-making when completing dependency assessments. These initial insights were focused and narrow in scope but proved the value of bringing mCare history into the dependency workflow.

What’s New in Decision Insights Version 2

Version 2 significantly expands the insight model. It moves from a small set of charts to comprehensive, needs-aligned evidence for every resident, covering the full range of dependency categories within DepenSys.

1. Expanded Coverage Across All Dependency Needs

Version 2 now maps all major mCare care-note types and structured events to every DepenSys’ care need. This provides visible, chart-based evidence for categories such as:

  • Psychological, emotional & social care

  • Physical care

  • Specific interventions

  • Continence

  • Mobility

  • Cognition

  • Nutrition & hydration

  • Observations and supervision

  • Enhanced support needs

Example of the Decision Insights pulled from mCare:

Each Depensys care need now has corresponding charts that present recent trends, of support recorded in mCare, to help you more effectively score a residents needs.

This replaces the “basic” v1 integration and now ensures staff no longer need to remember or manually cross-check mCare history when assigning dependency scores.

2. A Much Richer Set of mCare Data Sources

Version 2 brings in a significantly broader dataset from mCare, including:

  • Structured care-note activity logs

  • Support levels (e.g., mobility assistance, continence support, interventions)

  • Fluid and nutrition events

  • Psychological or behaviour-related notes

  • Night-time care patterns

  • Enhanced observation requirements

  • Frequency of care interactions linked to specific needs

The new charts convert day-to-day frontline entries into clear visual evidence for assessing care needs, increasing confidence and reducing reliance on memory or manual record-checking.

3. Evidence-Driven Scoring to Improve Consistency and Compliance

Decision Insights V2 strengthens care-need justification by ensuring:

  • Every dependency score is supported by real historical activity

  • Decisions can be explained and evidenced to regulators or auditors much easier through evidencing mCare data within Depensys.

This aligns with DepenSys’ purpose of helping homes demonstrate safe staffing and justify dependency decisions.
