General Sportsbook Rules

Refer to this article for general sports rules. If you want rules specific to your sport, refer to the Sports Rules page.

These are the general rules. Where a general rule and an individual sport's rules differ, the rules for that sport apply. For settlement rules specific to your sport, see our Sports Rules page.

How bets are settled

Every settled bet gets one of five outcomes. Not all of them apply to every market.

Outcome

What it means

Win

Your bet succeeded. Your stake and winnings are paid to your balance.

Loss

Your bet did not succeed. Your stake is not returned.

Push

The result is neither a win nor a loss, so your full stake is returned. This happens when the outcome lands exactly on a whole-number line, for example, Over 2 goals in a match that finishes 1–1.

Our sportsbook rules refer to this outcome as a Tie.

Half-win

Half your stake wins at the full odds, and the other half is returned.

(Only applies to Asian Handicap and Asian Total bets where the line includes a quarter number, such as 0.25, 0.75 or 1.25.)

Half-loss

Half your stake is lost, and the other half is returned.

(Only applies to Asian Handicap and Asian Total bets where the line includes a quarter number, such as 0.25, 0.75 or 1.25.)

Multiple (parlay) bets

A multiple, or parlay, combines two or more selections into a single bet. The odds of each selection are multiplied together, so the potential payout is higher than placing each bet on its own. Every selection has to win for the multiple to win. If one loses, the whole bet loses.

You cannot combine selections from the same match, as these are correlated. Use Bet Builder for same-game multiples instead.

If a selection is void or pushed

The odds for that selection are set to 1, which removes it from the calculation. Your bet then settles on the remaining selections.

For example, a multiple contains Over 2.5 goals in Game A at odds of 2, and Home in Game B at odds of 1.5. Game B is voided, so the odds for the multiple become 2 × 1 = 2.

We cannot refund the stake for a single voided selection, because a multiple has only one stake covering every selection.

If a selection is a half-win or half-loss

  • Half-win: total odds = odds (other selections) × (odds (half-win selection) ÷ 2 + ½)

  • Half-loss: total odds = odds (other selections) × ½

We reserve the right not to accept certain multiple bets.

When bets are void

A void bet is cancelled and your stake is returned in full — no win, no loss.

Because of what happened to the event

  • The event was a forfeit or a walkover, or the fixture was completed without play.

  • The match was postponed or abandoned and not completed in time. See Postponed or abandoned matches below.

  • The venue changed in a way that affects the bet — see Change of venue below.

Because of a problem with the bet or the market

  • The bet was offered, placed, or accepted in error.

  • The odds or limits on the market were obviously wrong, for example because of a data entry error or outdated information. If a bet is accepted at a price materially different from the general market at the time, or clearly incorrect given the chance of the outcome, we will void it.

  • The bet was fraudulent.

  • An advantage was gained that the market was not intended to offer.

We may also void a bet, in whole or in part, where our Terms and Conditions allow. This includes bets placed after an event has started or after a deadline we set, syndicate betting, betting on insider knowledge, results affected by criminal activity, clearly manipulated odds, and bets placed from a jurisdiction where we are not licensed to operate.

Postponed or abandoned matches

If a match does not start on its scheduled date, or starts and is later abandoned, and it is not completed or resumed by the end of the next full day, all bets are void and stakes are refunded.

Bets on markets that had already been unconditionally determined will still stand. Some markets follow different rules. See the full Sports Rules page.

Change of venue

For team sports, if the scheduled venue changes after the market opens, bets are void only if the new venue is a home ground of the original away team. Otherwise they stand.

For everything other than team sports, bets stand if the venue changes. Bets also stand if the type of playing surface changes after the market opens.

Dead heat

Where two or more selections tie for a winning position, your stake is reduced in proportion to the number of actual winners, and your winnings are paid on that reduced stake.

  • Reduced stake = your stake × (expected winners ÷ actual winners)

  • Payout = reduced stake × your odds

For example, three horses dead-heat for first place. You backed one of them for 300 at odds of 4.0. Your stake is multiplied by ⅓, giving a reduced stake of 100. Your payout is 4.0 × 100 = 400, so your net winnings are 100.

Resettlements

If a market is settled in error, whether the cause is human or technical, we reserve the right to reverse that settlement and grade it correctly.

If you think one of your bets has been graded wrongly, see My sports bet was incorrectly graded.

Suspected irregularities

Where a game or sporting event has, or is suspected of having, any irregularities, we may withhold payment until the relevant governing body or an independent authority has completed a full investigation.
