How does Asian Total differ from other Totals (Over / Under) bets?

Asian Total is a special type of Totals bet that can be graded Half-Win or Half-Loss as well as Win, Loss or Push (stake returned to the bettor).

A regular Totals bet uses whole or half numbers. The possible outcomes when the line is a whole number are Win, Loss and Push. For example, a live market for the CONCACAF Gold Cup: Honduras vs French Guiana offers Over 1 or Under 1.

Betting on Over 1 will have the following possible outcomes:

  • If the total goals for the match are 2 or more, the bet is graded Win.

  • If the total goals for the match are 1, the bet is graded Push.

  • If the match yields no goals, the bet is graded Loss.

Betting on Under 1 will have the following possible outcomes:

  • If the total goals for the match are 2 or more, the bet is graded Loss.

  • If the total goals for the match are 1, the bet is graded Push.

  • If the match yields no goals, the bet is graded Win.

Introducing a half number to a Totals bet eliminates the possibility of a Push grading. For example, a pre-live market for the Premier League: Everton FC vs Stoke City FC offers Over 2.5 or Under 2.5.

Betting on Over 2.5 will have the following possible outcomes:

  • If the total goals for the match are 3 or more, the bet is graded Win.

  • If the total goals for the match are 2 or fewer, the bet is graded Loss.

Betting on Under 2.5 will have the following possible outcomes:

  • If the total goals for the match are 3 or more, the bet is graded Loss.

  • If the total goals for the match are 2 or fewer, the bet is graded Win.

ASIAN TOTAL: THE ONLY TOTALS BET WITH QUARTER NUMBERS

The unique aspect of the Asian Total is that it can be a quarter number (0.25, 0.75, 1.25, 1.75, etc). In this case, there are four possible outcomes: Win, Loss, Half-Win and Half-Loss. For example, a pre-live market for the UEFA Champions League: FK Spartaks Jūrmala vs FC Astana offers Over 2.25 or Under 2.25.

Betting on Over 2.25 means half the stake is bet on Over 2 and half is bet on Over 2.5, so:

  • If the total goals for the match are 3 or more, the bet is graded Win.

  • If the total goals for the match are 2, half the bet is graded Push and the other half is graded Loss, therefore the bet as a whole is graded Half-Loss.

  • If the total goals for the match are 1 or 0, the bet is graded Loss.

Betting on Under 2.25 means half the stake is bet on Under 2 and half is bet on Under 2.5, so:

  • If the total goals for the match are 3 or more, the bet is graded Loss.

  • If the total goals for the match are 2, half the bet is graded Push and the other half is graded Win, therefore the bet as a whole is graded Half-Win.

  • If the total goals for the match are 1 or 0, the bet is graded Win
